lost what causes a dim picture on a sony DLP tv ..with even a new bulb? ballast?

ballast cause a dim picture? tried a few different bulbs same thing
color is good....dim picture... full brightness...gets better at night...

How's the light output from the lamp? It should be painful to look at.

I just picked up a Samsung DLP - same problem - the acrylic lens is all cloudy instead of clear. Have you looked at the lens and mirror to see if they are clean and clear?

no didnt pull out the the light engine yet...just wondering if a ballast could be at fault . can they become weak?..bulb seam to be bright...guess i gotta pull it

Ballast is a coil of wire, doesn't really go wrong that much as far as I understand.
