Not unless the board lay out has the exposed copper for the exposed pad to be soldered to, also if the original IC is not exposed pad type and has traces running under the IC then you can short out the traces due to the exposed pad of the new IC.

The best way is: what part is taken out-same part has to be returned back to the place.

Just try to make a better connection of those points I have marked in the picture. Just do it with the soldering iron(re solder them) Sometimes it helps.
