Sony KDL40/37/32-P5600 or KDLxxS5600 SSB board

    Hi,
I have a Sony set KDL40-P5600 that is failing at power on. The relay is clicking every 30 seconds or so while the green light goes on and off at the same speed.
The TV never powers-up, remote control does not operate, set is dead.

All power lines are OK, a replacement SSB board makes the TV work.

The problem seems to be known and is the result of a bad or faulty firmware update delivered by the TV signal (terresterial digital TV).

According to different forums, the firmware is to be reloaded in the SSB but only Sony agreed service stations can make it. The failing board should be sent to the service station and returned when reloaded. Unfortunately, it's a costly process (150 to 250 or more $) which is quite expensive for a problem due to a faulty process.
Does anyone as experienced this failure and knows a procédure to recover ?
    Thanks for your support.

I would be interested to see where you found this information, as TVs (Sony included) receive firmware updates through a network (internet) connection, or by memory card or USB drive, not through the terrestrial TV signal.

Have you contacted Sony about it? I know from personal experience that Sony supports and encourages customers to do their own firmware updates. I believe they may even send you a memory card with the upgrade files you need if you request it from them, assuming your problem really is just a firmware issue.

As I am in France, this way to distribute firmware updates (through the Digital Terrestorial Network)is very common and on our TV sets, the MENU allows frequently to enable or disable this possibility. Generally, when this option is ON, the TV set powers on by itself (without sound and backlight) around 5 o'clock in the morning to receive updates if any. In the Philips sets, a 5 mn pre-standby delay occurs when shutting down the set (no sound no backlight) to allow firmware update dowload to complete if necessary.
I suppose you are in a country where this update process does not exists.

Back to my problem, as th eTV set is 4 years old, Sony does provide support on a fee basis to exchange the board for around 200 Euros which is a lot too much for reloading the EPROM. This is why I winder if anybody faced this problem and solved it.
Thanks for your interest in this post. Regards.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

        Assuming...

        Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
        by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
        CN6401
        Pin 01 NC
        Pin 02 NC
        Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V

        Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V

ITE IT8390 (IT8390E-256) programmer "ITE Download Board 4" user manual + firmware, flashing ITE ECs on the cheap
        by H34TO
Recently I've gotten into EC flashing due to my broken laptop(s) and started frantically searching methods for flashing the IT5571E-128 chip on the cheap(due to me beaing a student and not having a job) and noticed that ITE newer chips can be flashed via ISP (In-System Programming) either via SMBus or the KBC (EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port) interface. While these can be achieved with programmers like SVOD4/3 or the RT809H/F those options are WAYYY out of my budget so I was horrified. But recently I stumbled uppon some programmers on aliexpress that claim they can program a variety of ITE chips...

Sony experts? 2nd bricked BAT Board after firmware update KDL-55EX720
        by thesteve
So I bought another main board from eBay and the same thing happened.

I got the firmware file from the Sony website. My model was listed and everything matched.

        sony_tvupdate_2011_4027_aaa_auth.zip was the file.

        Extracted to a folder: "sony_dtv0FA10A01A0A1_00000301"
        with file: 00000301_07e8046a.bin inside.

Loaded it into the root of an otherwise empty USB thumbnail bought from around the same time as the TV. Not too old, not too new.. under 2Gig.

The file reads perfectly. Lots of "disk activity"...
