I know this is an old and dead thread, but I just picked up a KDL-52S4100 off the side of the road and immediately did a firmware update since it was the easiest course of action. It fired right up. It had a steady green light and no picture or back light. Now I am just curious as to why this ever was a problem / solution. Thank you all!Comment

Thunderstorm borked mine, I think some tvs including the infamous kdl's are a little more prone to firmware corruption, with a power surge and the like, hard to tell what all will do it but a power surge can for sure. it happens, ASSUMPTIONS have been screwing people up since time began, including me.

Previous owner said TV just went blank one day.
They attempted to open the back panel and yanked the power connector off the power supply in the meantime.
Easily fixed that and got the TV to turn on. Backlights come one with everything connected. Good Sign.
The mainboard shows signs of life (red light on digital audio out is on) but that's about it. Good Sign.
There is not blinking LED and the most importantly there is LED response and sound when I press the MENU button on remote control. GREAT Sign.

Hi,
i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.
Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted... -
Hello, Last week I bought the 50" Sony X80j tv everything was working fine, untill I plugged the tv in a ups power supply 650va the tv remote control became unresponsive and the TV became laggy after a while the picture quality isn't the same as before the tv seems less brighter and the picture is somehow blurry, people's faces don't look as natural as before, there is a mini orange-pink tint to the edge of people's faces especially in NETFLIX Dolby Vision like in One Piece ep1 Alvida skin tone, my intention was to protect the tv but something went wrong I checked the ups with a multimeter,... -
Hello! I would like to repair my father's Sony Bravia KDL-40v4100 LCD TV. It was in perfect working order the last time I used it before the pandemic. Then it sat plugged in but unused for a year or more. And now everything still works except that there is no picture on the screen. A relay can be heard to click when the power cable is connected. When the power button is pressed there is a green power LED and then the backlight turns on. If I connect an HDMI cable and play something with audio I can hear it through the speakers. The remote control buttons are recognized. There is just never anything... -

So a few months ago my Sony XBR 49x900e TV screen stopped displaying the picture but the backlight comes on and I still get sound when I use the remote and navigate to certain apps. I haven't checked anything with the meter yet but started with ordering some replacement boards. I've tried replacing the BMKS board (used from ebay) and also completed the firmware upgrade based on Nicks TV repairs youtube video. I've also replaced the TCON (twice) and PIB.
All of these changes have resulted in the same issue with no picture. I've also tried disconnecting the ribbons...
