    Pioneer PDP 503U warm up

Hello all. I have an old Pioneer 50 plasma PDP 503U TV and a PDP R03U media receiver. It's been through a lot. I got it for free, replaced the power switch thing and it's even been through a house fire and lived (it' slightly melted on the top and permanently discolored).
Within the past year weird squiggly lines will appear when cold but eventually go away after it warms up. The TV will also occasionally flash black then kick back on and sometimes it gets stuck like it zoomed in on one corner of the broadcast. It seems to not be affected as much by dark screens. If I play something in SD the lines return, especially if I stretch it to widescreen. If I box it it's still watchable but the lines do show up occasionally.
I love my TV and can't imagine getting a new one, this picture quality is awesome.
Here are some pictures taken as it warms up, its worst in the morning completely cold.
And, anywhere to get a remote for this thing? I still have mine but it won't work.

How do the menus look when it is doing this?

What is the power switch thing....literally a switch or the power supply?

You can open the tv back up and start heating boards (with a hair dryer) and see what makes the disfiguring go away faster.

Pictures of the boards and layout will help too

Re: Pioneer PDP 503U warm up

I have a Pioneer PDP-503MXE which is dead (bad plasma panel), so if you need parts, let me know. They may be compatible. Sadly, I don't know where to find a remote either.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
For service manual, schematic, boardview (board view), datasheet, cad - use our search.

The power switch was the board that kept randomly turning off the TV when I first got it. You could here it click and somehow I found one online. It is actually connected to the power button on the media receiver.
When you say menus, you mean the TV menus? If so I don't have access to anything but the input button part of the menu.
When I hit the directv menu most of the lines go away because it is dark in color.
I will try the thing with a hair dryer and see if that helps.
Spare parts may eventually be needed, I will let you know.

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

Pioneer PDP-V402 - Black Horizontal Lines
          by Wf789
Hi, I'm new around here and hoping that there may still be some people on here that are knowledgable about plasma display repair, as some of the old badcaps forum posts have been pretty useful to me so far.

For any regular plasma TV I probably wouldn't bother to go through this effort, but I have a pro-grade Pioneer plasma which I really want to use and it would be a shame to throw it out since there's not many of them still around these days. The plasma has the typical black horizontal lines that seem plague plasma displays. I've counted 3 lines on top of the screen and 4 at the...

          Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
          by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

          Samsung QN50Q60t lines on screen
          by jeyoung12
          Hi all
I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):

This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!

So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
          by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...
