    LG LCD 47lg50 screen issues

I posted about this earlier this week, but This time I have more info about it. As stated its a 47lg50 and the screen goes off after about a half hour however the backlight and audio stay on just the image goes off.

    What I've tried:
    1. I tried running it without the back cover and with 2 fans blowing on it, and it ran for about three hours, but then I had to shut it off because I was heading to bed. Every component on the back was cold to the touch
    2. I tried the same thing with out fans and it did get warmer but it stayed running for about the same time, and the I shut it off because I had to go

Any ideas on what could be overheating? I am thinking about installing one or two computer fans in the back to assist in cooling and maybe making some vents on the back cover bigger. The fans I thought would help also to keep the overall temperature down, which might help everything last longer. I don't want to start replacing things if I don't know what it is, so any ideas can help. Also I didn't see any bulging or leaking caps on the psu though they still could be bad, if that helps at all.

    Thanks,

My last Philips TV that I have repaired, the T-con was overheating. I have found a nylon layer on top of the heat pad, which in my opinion it should not have been there.
I have installed a Pentium CPU heatsink on the shield and it worked great closed in a garage when the temperatures were over 100.
I have even left it 24 hours to run and it was still fine.

      Thanks for the reply!

Do you think it would be fine it would be fine if I just put a few fans in? Because I'm thinking that if I keep the temperature low it should be fine.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks

It would most likely be delaying the problem -- adding a heatsink would be similar -- but if it delays it long enough to last 5 years it could be a good fix.

I was thinking of taking it into a shop to see if they could diagnose it, but if fans could keep it cool it would seem that it would do the trick.

Do you have any idea what component it might be?

A TV repair shop would charge you $100 for diagnosis and then $200 to get a new board which would only die in a few years' time. At that price, you could seriously consider a new 42" plasma (even though I don't like the low end offerings from Samsung or LG, they would likely last you 3-5 years.)

Try the fans. The worst is it won't solve the problem.

I think it should work, when I had the fans on it before everything was cold to the touch, and heat would wear it down faster.

Have any of you tried fans before?

No, I have never bodged fans into a design that didn't originally use them.

Im going to try to get some fans today and hopefully mount them. I will post pics when I'm done
