Yes. Black sparkles associated with low vscan voltage. Not too bad thou. And well monitoring voltage on the vscan pin it fluctuates 2 to 3 v from -174 to -172 depending on brightness of image etc.

Also some image retention from things being on the screen for over a minute. Also an association to low vscan. I'm sure.

Try adjusting the Yrr and Yfr controls (this is a Samsung plasma panel?)

Hey if anyone else has this model tv and has it cracked open for some reason or another. Can you tell me what happens if you disconnect the vscan pin from the loom connected to the power supply side and test the wire coming from the ysus. Are you getting voltage on that pin? And furthermore do you still actually have a picture?

Re: Magnavox 42mf231d/37 vscan not adjustable

Ok this TV's bugging me. Vscan voltage is going to the primary side in the form of +205vdc. Nothing going out of the transformer. Initial tests show the transformer is good. This power supply is the lj44-00092e or known as the v4c. Had a blown ic561 shorted zd565. Replaced both. Already replaced opto and a few other components. No power out still. Any ideas?

The only thing I'm wondering reading through all your fault finding is have you tested the trimmer pot for the VSCAN adjustment? I had a samsung and vscan was all over the place and virtually unadjustable to the correct level. trimmer had a big dead spot in it. Although I could adjust it but erractic.

                  just a thought?

Very good assumption. Yes it has been tested. And along with the trimmer I also for good measure replaced the regulator ic for the trim pot as well.

In my case, I had low vscan voltage and no vset, and I found a crap load of components (caps, resistors, diodes, fuse) that were bad or suspect in circuit with IC561. I counted something like 8 to 10 components. I haven't replaced them yet to verify whether the power supply will actually function like normal.

Where did you buy the replacement zener diode? Do you have a link?

                        Thanks.

Edit: Another question: Do you know if 5H0365R or 5M0365R can substitute for the 5L0365R IC?

How can I identify varistor which have been blew up?
                          by chth96
I mistakely pluged 100v japanese retro game console to 220v outlet.
So It seems that glass fuse and varistor have been blew up.
I can identify that voltage and ampere value of glass fuse(250V LF 1.6A),but It is impossible to identify varistor type in my sega saturn PSU(YAMAHA 35M07U XR258)
Is there any way to identify varistor type in my sega saturn PSU?
                          Any reply would be appreciated.

I'm going to assume my beloved Magnavox CRT is toast, but also figured maybe this was a good opportunity to dip my toes into he circuitry waters and maybe learn something new. Also, I don't want to trash it if it's a fairly cheap/easy fix!

My 20-year-old Magnavox has gotten me and my kids through many a gaming console change and worked great up until the other day. Following a long distance move, it sat in our garage for a year and now that I brought it in and turned it on I get no picture; instead, a green light blinks on the front of it; 7 flashes, one long flash, then 3 more...
