    Sharp LCD TVs in general

A friend of mine has a Sharp LCD HDTV that will randomly go black every so often. Oddly enough, hitting it will often make it begin working again.

I thought about purchasing a Sharp HDTV earlier, but my friend's experience is causing me to second guess.

Are Sharp TVs typically of bad quality or is this a mostly isolated incident? The forum members here have a ton of experience with this stuff!

Open it up and see if there any loose connectors that are not pushed in all the way - I picked up an older Sharp for $5 that was doing the same thing, works perfectly.

Sharp seem to be of decent quality. You get a few failures like any brand. However, watch out for newer smaller Sharp TVs (<=40"); they are just re-badged crappy Vestel TVs, not one bit of "Sharp" about them. Similar for Toshiba.

Samsung and LG are the main ones I avoid unless I fix them first.
