Just got one in for repair today: it has no backlights, sound is OK.
Found bad caps in power supply and blown 0.25A fuse in the inverter board that supplys the power to the PWM IC.

So inverter board fuse was blown and you replaced it and everything was good (besides the caps you mentioned)??

@kevin, yes, that's about it. Burn it in for 24 hours before giving it back to the customer.

Good deal.. My last name being Murphy, out of 30+ tv's I think just one had bad caps. Maybe my next 30?!?

To be fair I've had a lot of broken screens, but it seems everything else has been quite a challenge if not a guessing game...

Was that the 10v 2200uF ones that failed on em? I had a job where we had 15 of those units fail at a hotel.. Had to go from room to room repairing them.. Took me almost the entire day having to setup my work table, equipment, etc then re-pack everything to go to the next room.

Yes, 2200/10V for the standby 5V, and 1000/35V for the 24V. I changed all the caps in the secondary side.

@budm, dude thanks so much. I'm a retired industrial electronics guy. never attempted a tv repair until today. your post made it childs play. keep up the good work. the pics helped alot in helping my ailing eyes spot the board level components. thanks a bunch.

I do sometimes if they are known bad like capxon.
