    Vizio 42" Plasma - PDP42X3U400

I have a 42" Vizio Plasma that I picked up from someone who didn't want to go to the trouble of trying to fix it. I'm hoping to get some help troubleshooting the set myself and hopefully end up with a watchable TV. Other threads here have given me some possible avenues (perhaps too many for a newbie).

Behavior: The set will not turn on. There is no standby light when plugged in. There is no relay "click" when the power button us pushed. According to the previous owner no "pop" was heard when the set went bad, it just went black.

Visual Inspection: Upon visual inspection, there do not appear to any bulging capacitors or blown fuses on any boards.

Testing: I have done minimal voltage testing on the power supply (6709900019a | 68709M0031A/5) thus far and could use some help here due to my inexperience. The only voltage I can confirm is 5V standby on pins 3 and 8 of the P800 13-pin connection to the main board.

I am attaching a photo of my power supply. It's not the greatest picture in the world so I am also linking to another photo of the same board for reference.

    Re: Vizio 42" Plasma - PDP42X3U400

Update: Following the lead on another thread I saw here, I unplugged the main board (0171-2272-2233) and plugged the set in. Immediately heard a relay click, the power came on, and the screen glowed gray.

Attached us a picture a main board identical to the one in my set; It is not the actual board. My logic might be too simplistic, but I am assuming this means I have a bad main board. If so, is the best option simply to replace or should I continue to troubleshoot and try to repair it?

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
      by howardc64
      Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

      Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
      by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....

      Vizio m601d-a3 backlight issue
      by Mectronik
Hello, I'm working on a Vizio m601d-a3 with a backlight issue that I am having a difficulty diagnosing it. As it sits, the tv powers on, displays the Vizio symbol and with nothing hooked up it will then display no signal but you can only see half of the screen. I know it's a back light issue because the picture is there without light behind it, as I can see it by doing a light test. I've taken off the paneling and done a visual inspection. If I disconnect the tcon ribbon cable to the affected side then the entire half of the screen goes away. I've checked voltages at the LED driver from the main...
