46 in samsung possible bad main or tcon, need help

i found this tv on the curb, after some research and some poking around. i have taken out all connections and put them back in securely. the main board looks as if it may have gotten wet, possible spill? (nothing burnt, just some hardwater spots and even very little rust in certain spots) i'm not sure but the main board looks shabby, the tcon looks untouched and flawless. when i start the tv with no inputs it has white horizontal lines that do not move. if i unplug the ribbons from the tcon either left or right, the problem goes away on the unplugged side. back light and panel are still working getting power and sound. and it still displays some what of an image. i'm 90% convinced its the main board, but im looking for a second opinion.

There's an easy way to verify if is the main or T-con fault on a Samsung.

Turn off the TV. Press Info-Menu-Mute-Power on remote control.

You should get into the service menu.

Post a picture of this, because it's different for each Samsung TV I've seen. Try looking for the LVDS option page, which lets you change LVDS format.

Changing the LVDS format will mess up the colours. BUT, if it messes up the whole picture, it is the main board at fault. If it only messes up the background image, it is a T-con fault. If it has been rain damaged it could still have damage to the LCD panel drivers on the top of the screen causing the issue you see.

i dont have a remote control for this television is there another way to get into the service menu? lets hope its just the tcon or main, i really am in need of another tv aha, this would be fantastic come up!

You'll need to buy a remote control unfortunately to get into the service menu. You can get replacement remotes which work fine for around $10.

how would i diagnose the panel drives, sorry i really have no experience in tv repair :/

Not easily... you'd probably need a very high speed oscilloscope.

well, first off i dont think it was left out in the rain, non of the other parts appear to have gotten wet. i guess ill get a remote in order to go to the service menu and diagnose the tcon or main. what would i see if they are both good? cross one bridge at a time :p

the only thing im worried about is somehow the panel is no good and i will be wasting money on a tcon or main bored to begin with :/

Either the main or the T-con/panel has failed. It can be hard to separate the T-con and panel fault though I would admit it looks a LOT like digital noise rather than typical panel failure so you might be lucky. Take a chance, I did on a 42" LCD and it worked great .

Caught your post when researching samsung T con failure
Strongly suspct Yours is/was a Tcon failure fault
BTW some Toshiba lcd tv use same Tcon boards
Sorry if you have already sorted it out - and if so could u email me to let me know how it was fixed for future reference

Hi tom66 I just came across your posts by looking at this thread. I'll tell you what's my problem basically I have a samsung 47 46d7000 led , and on the left side I see really transparent fine lines..just a block of 2cm width, at first I thought it might be image persistance or burn in , cause I read lot's of books on the tv with aadobe reader and the lines match perfectly the solid panel of adobe acrobat on that side of the tv. But .. I ran a solid white rectangle changing black / white / black / white on that side of the tv.. and didn't do anything. I'm leaving you a link of the image.. so you can have a better idea.. I didn't pm you cause you said. .you don't want to. I'm stating to worry.. if it's TCON going bad or maybe a flex it's not doing good contact.

Anyway, can't see the pic, but I'd say if you've got numerous fine lines, the panel is probably at fault.
