Likely bad 450V caps or bad 200-250V caps on primary and secondary respectively.

I have fiddled with the v and y sync seems to have fixed it.

But now I think its the contrast might be set to bright.

Anyone know of if a harmony remote will work with the set?

sometimes I'm getting white lines flicker across the screen is this what these caps do when they go bad. its not very often but I'm thinking its when there is a heap of white being displayed.

Never had this fault before, but I think that could cause the problem.

By the way the PDP42U3H only has an 852x480 resolution - not HD. I can find these for £10 each in working condition.

              Thats 12 dollars Australian dollars.
I would near get 150 if I sold it as is but hey I need a flat screen in the lounge room.

Its probably going to be temporally until I get others come in, then I can probably get rid of it.
to the guy who thought it was broken because he found it next to the recycling skip bin at his work and it was pulled apart.

I will look at getting a remote today.

Go to Logitech and punch in the brand and model number and will let you know if it will work with it.

Really? That would be nice. Maybe someone dumb would buy it. A 720p 42" would be worth maybe AUD$150, but this is just a 480p. Still, it is plenty nice for games and SD (which most people watch.)

well basically everything here on tv is nearly SD except for 4 channels.
So yeah after watching a vacuum tv I won't notice the difference.
Its not a bad tv playing the PS2 on it will be good.

If I was a retailer in Australia, I would not sell 480 line flat TVs, since they are primarily intended for NTSC markets such as North America.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

480p is a standard for plasmas, NTSC or PAL. That means in the UK, a 42" plasma has a lower vertical resolution than a 28" CRT.

                          Got remote then fixed everything

I have been keeping it switched off at the main power all week.

Now it has a luminescent green over all the white.
also some luminescent blue over some stuff.

Anyone got any ideas about where to start?

                              worked that problem out.
Was playing with the screw things in the back of it.

and also found the system menu. where you can set the default colors.

Now I'm stuck with 1 second flickers.

                              found a better manual

just fixed up an lg 42" plasma monitor.
had interference type patterns, white streaks, black streaks, and flicker.got to poking about with a scope and found all sorts of trash on regulated supplies.had to replace about 60 sm caps.
                                its perfect now.
set it up on a pc with dream aquarium screen saver and it sold itself.

But I have re calibrated the Vs/Va pots they both equal the required voltage now.

But I do believe one to be going up down 270.0 to 270.2 is this normal?

should it be at a stable 270.0 on my multimeter?

Have I answered my own question?

Is it stable during flickering? It should be rock solid. 0.1V max variation over full brightness - this voltage is directly proportional to picture brightness.

                                          Good morning everyone

I have this Telefunken te43550b40q2k TV that has intermittent backlighting, sometimes it turns on and then does not turn back on.

I tested the LED bars and all three work, not even one burned LED, then I tried to put only two bars short-circuiting the end of the connection cable and it does not give any problem the LEDs stay on without problems, I also tried short-circuiting the central connector and the initial one, always no problem, but as soon as I put the third bar, no matter the position the problems start again.

                                          Thanks in advance...

Intermittent display on Sherwood Newcastle R-965 Receiver

                                          Hi all,

I'm working on a Sherwood R-965 at the moment. It came in with relays clicking constantly and also going into protect mode.
I've re-soldered a lot of dry joints and replaced quite a few capacitors and now it works, but I still have one problem I haven't solved and would like some opinions.
The vacuum display is quite intermittent. Sometimes it won't turn on, sometimes it will turn on but the characters, numbers and letters are frozen on, regardless of which buttons are pushed. And sometimes it works flawlessly. If the display doesn't turn on initially, restarting...

Hope someone can give me some suggestions on this because i'm at my wits end with it...

I have an Envy 13-BA1565na here with an Intel Core i7 i7-1165G7 CPU (board is a LA-J475P Rev 1.0) which has an intermittent power button issue. The power button is integrated into the keyboard, and I have ruled out the keyboard, BIOS and battery as being the issue.

Basically, on mains power, the power button works fairly well. The first time you come to it after leving it sitting (either on charge or not on charge), it might take 2 or 3 presses of the button, but then the laptop boots...

Bose Wave I AWRCC1 - intermittent to no sound output - loud popping & crackle sounds

                                          Dear reader

I have been asked to check out a faulty Bose Wave system belonging to a relative. The faulty unit produces loud intermittent pops and crackles. Sometimes there is speaker audio output (FM/AM, CD etc.), most of the time there isn't. This behaviour degraded over time fairly quickly, to the current situation where no sound is put out at all. Gently messing and wiggling wires, connectors or heatsink has no effect in force-replicating the problem. I have little experience in audio repair when it comes to (main)board electronic component faults. Bose repair WAS about 140$ (most...
