    Sony KDL-32L4000

Well, I picked up a Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000 today that has a nice ghost image to it on all inputs. So, I went to go look for a service manual and there are links all over (even on badcaps forum) however, the posting has been removed from the website it was on. Now, I was just wondering if any of you guys are like me and actually download the manual and would happen to have a copy of it on PDF format that you would like to email me or if you have a different link that I can obtain a copy that would be just as good.

I believe that the issue is from the t-con board but I want to be able to cover everything before I try to track down a new board. Thank you in advanced!

      Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

Although it mostly affects 42 and 46 inch models, a lot of sonys from around this time are affected by bad tab bonding. If you search on youtube you can see videos of what that causes, but basically it causes the images to clear really slowly, and thus look exactly like ghosting. It often will only affect 1 side of the screen more then the other, and sometimes goes away when it heats up.

If your problem is related to tab bonding, it is a permanent issue with the screen. If applying pressure to the top of the screen (try a bunch of different places) fixes it, then you can possibly use foam to fix the problem for a while, but otherwise this problem makes the tv worthless and is not fixable, and you will eventually have to trash the tv.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

budm the last picture (the one with the DVD Video logo) is exactly what this TV is doing and that's why I considered it to be an issue with the T-con board. Thank you for the PDF, I will give it a look!

CashKennedy, thank you for the reply as well. I will be taking the TV apart soon, and will try pressing on various locations of the LCD.

That last picture is from SONY KDL-40" XBR series. I reseated the ribbon cables between the panel and the T-CON board, and so far it is still working. it can be that I had disturbed the LCD panel X/Y tabs flex circuit boards itself to make the problem goes away, try resating the cables first.

            Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

I'm in the process of that now, I cleaned all the connections, just have to get the rest of the TV apart to get to the cable from the TCON to the LCD panel. Everything on the main board looks good, but I didn't have any doubt that it wasn't a problem. TCON shows no signs of damage.

The cable that goes from the TCON board to the LCD panel might even be the issue, I will have to see if I can track down one of them as well. Once I get it out I will take a look at it with a multimeter to see if all the leads have a solid connection.

I have also added a picture of the screen so you can see what it's doing. Thanks again, for the help!

If anyone does have a copy of the service manual, I would still love to have it! I don't know why they took it off that website!!!!!

                      Please a new thread.
For us to help we will need good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV showing all the boards, and the straight shot pictures of the whole top and bottom side of the power supply board so we can read the printed texts on the board.
It is hard to do long distant troubleshooting without seeing what we are dealing with.
What is the history of the TV? Any works were done to the TV before?
The more details we get the better chance of finding the cause of the problem.

                          Re: Sony KDL-32L4000

This is the same TV that has been discussed in this thread. Though I guess there can be some different variation of boards. Attached are three pictures, one a wide picture of the back, the second of the power board and the third of the main board. I couldn't quickly figure out how to remove the shielding for the main board and will need to investigate further if necessary; however, i am trying to figure out if I need to go there.

To start with let me set the understanding that my knowledge is very high level and my terminology may be rather inexact. I would be interested in a component level fix if possible, but a board level fix may be sufficient.

I tested the voltages with the power supply plugged in, but CN201 and CN202 unplugged. CN201 has two connectors -- one going to the main board and the other going to the inverter board. CN202 has a PS On, Power Err Det three grounds and three 4 VSB. With nothing plugged in the PS On shows 4.17 V and three 4 VSB posts change voltages over the range of about 4.03 to 4.20 (continually changing readings). Nothing on Power Err Det. No voltages detected on CN201.

If I plug all the connectors in two of the 4 VSBs have a connection and both read 4.17V; zero volts on Power Err Det. and PS On shows .08V. CN201 has a 24V and ground on the top connector which goes to the inverter and the lower connector (middle one of the three) show 1.13 on the Pwr 6V connections, .44V on the Pwr Panel connections, .87V on the 15V connections and .01V on the 30V connections.

These readings would lead me to believe the power supply is bad. However, pushing the power button on the top of the TV does nothing (i.e., TV seems dead), though i do notice that the optical audio light is on. My understanding is that the main board waits to be energized by the power button being pressed and then turns on the set. So i am suspecting that the fact i am getting 4.17V when nothing is connected (including the PS On) means the power supply is good and that the main board is not energizing the TV when the button is pushed. Which I am guessing would then generate the voltages shown with CN201

I am not sure if that is a correct understanding and would appreciate corrections to my thinking if necessary. I also suppose that the power button could be malfunctioning, but I do not suspect this because I am told the TV was working and just turned off and would not turn back on.

Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
