SONY AVD K800P receiver plays CD's Not DND

I have a Sony AVD K800P CD/DVD receiver/player that will play CD's (after reading for extended period) but will not play DVD, costs $14 at community Thrift store so no big deal, but would like to get the DVD to play. I've tried the CD "cleaning disk" that seem to make no diference at all , have not opened it yet, it's semi-permentelt mounted under a shelf (I know ....I should have completely tested before installing) I've seen online references to laser power adjustments that seemd to fix for others with similar problems. Anyone seen this before and got it fixed?

Laser diodes get weaker from use. In this case, the DVD laser was probably used more than the CD laser, hence why the DVD stopped reading.

You can adjust the power to the laser (there's usually a potentiometer on the laser assembly for that), but that is only a temporary fix because the extra power you give to the laser will just make it go weak faster.

The best option would be to replace either the whole laser assembly (provided you can even find one for your model) or just replace the DVD laser diode. I've never done the latter, so I'm not sure on the specifics regarding adjustments on that.
