Vizio Plasma 50HDTV10a no picture and sort of no sound

First of all, this my first post. Thanks in advance for any help! This seems to be a great forum.

Current condition of the TV is it powers up but there is no picture (screen does not seem to turn on at all - no faint glow). But green power light stays on.

Also, there is sound in that you can hear the speakers turn on. I am unable to select any source (cant see source options since no screen) so I am not sure if I could get sound form a source. I have tried using remote to select a source (not sure if actually selected) and no sound from that source.

The heat sinks on the ysus and zsus get warm (not hot but warmer than when it is off).

Voltage readings out of the power supply are all correct.

    How we got here.

TV started acting up and would have a somewhat scrambled picture. Turning the TV off and an on a few times would get it to be OK. And we would watch the TV. This got progessively worse.

Ultimately, one time the picture just did not come on (and I cannot be sure but I do not think the speakers came on at this time either).

So I did a little reading and then discovered more than half the caps on the power supply were bulging. Bought a replacement kit and replaced those. As I said, all voltages out of there are now correct.

And that is where I am today.

Any ideas, anything to test? Any help will be greatly appreciated and fixing this will make my girlfriend very happy since it is her TV.

Also, I can get any pictures that would assist.

    Thanks again in advance!
    Steve

It seems to me this model had a reputation for blowing the Y-buffers or Y-Sustain. The first step is to open the TV up and check fuses on the Y-Sustain.

      Bill,

Thanks for the suggestion. Tested and they are both OK.

      Any other thoughts?

Again, if any pictures would be helpful, just let me know.

      Thanks!

A couple of Tests. Turn the TV on in a dark room. Do you see any light from the screen? With the TV on, press and hold the volume up button. Do you hear any static from the speakers?

I'd like two pictures, the first is an over-all shot of the back of the TV, so I can relate to what I am working with. The second is a high resolution shot of the main board. The limit is 2000 pixels in either dimension. Attach the pictures using 'Manage Attachments' - below the test entry area.

Ok a little bit of a delay on this. Sorry about that.

          On the tests -
          1. Light from screen - I do not see any light at all from the screen.
          2. Sound - I hooked up the cable to the cable hookup and chose that input with the remote. Can hear the TV channels and can change channels and get the sound of the next channel. So there is sound - at least for that input.

Thought I would add one more thing the d2,d3,d4,d5 lights. For split second when powering on, d3,d4,d5 all light up. The d5 goes off pretty quickly and d3,d4 stay on.

Just realized the pictures I took are not good. Will retake and post.

          Thanks!

Re: Vizio Plasma 50HDTV10a no picture but have sound

OK, a little more testing. It seems I do have sound out of at least the COAX input and the component inputs.

Just no picture on any input.

                  Thanks,

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
                      by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                      by TR103
                      Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                      - sound and backlight, but no picture
                      - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                      - it keeps rebooting
                      - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                      - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                      - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                      by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started β€˜fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly β€˜new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                      by Ierwin
                      Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...
