    Vizio P50HDTV10A Plasma Screen Flashes

    Hello everyone,

I have aquired a Vizio Plasma that upon startup the screen flashes between an "Off" state to bright white. The power LED in front of the TV will stay green during this time. I get a faint no signal found box displayed and no sound. I connected a HDMI source as well as a regular cable tv source. I do not have the remote, and it seems none of the button controls on the side of the tv have any effect on the picture(menu, vol. up/dn, Channel up/dn). I cannot seem to change the input source.(no sound)?

I've taken the back off of the tv and found no bulging/leaking capacitors. No burnt components that I can detect. I can hear a ticking sound coming from the Ysus board near the Hybrid IC's. This ticking is in "time" with the flashing of the screen.

Can it be assumed the Ysus is bad? I have done a preliminary check of the voltages, and eveything appears nominal.

Thanks for any replys and help.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is a Ysus problem. Disconnect the power connector to it. You should have no more flashing or picture, but the TV should now power up fully, with sound.

Re: Vizio P50HDTV10A Plasma Screen Flashes

Ok, so I disconnected the top power connecter to the Ysus board and the flashing of the screen stopped (blank screen) as well as the ticking sound near the IPM's.

So I then reconnected that power connecter and disconnected the power connecter that goes between the Ysus and Zsus. Flashing of the screen stopped (blank screen) but the ticking sound near the IPM's kept going.

I did change inputs to the tv so I CAN get sound.

I guess it is the Ysus board.

Any thoughts on replacements/repair of the Ysus?

Coppell's tv repair has replacement IPM's for both $89. I believe my soldering skills are up to the task. Of course I don't know if any other componet on the board is bad. He has a repair serivce for $125. Used boards on Ebay go for $125 shipped.

      Thanks,

      Jerry

I sent the Ysus board in to Coppell's TV repair. It took two days turn around and got the board today. Installed and the tv works great.

Good to hear. The last thread on Coppell wasn't all that positive (they didn't bother to return the OP's email).

Probably better they didn't. I emailed them recently with a query on an IPM I was going to buy. The guy was just a smartass and downright rude. Will definitely never be using their services.

All I can attest to is what my experience was with them. As far as I can tell
both IPM's were replaced on my old Ysus board. No other components were changed as far as I can tell. The board does work now. I believe I could have soldered both IPM's in myself and saved $40, however, Coppell tests each board and that gave me enough piece of mind to spend the extra money.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Coppell can fix the board properly. It is just his gruff nature (from his public postings) that I'm not sure I would want to deal with.

I can understand his lack of response. I get no economic benefit from answering questions here, and it does consume a significant amount of my time. On the other hand, it does not COST me anything (other than time spent playing Solitaire Suite (plug) or Angry Birds (plug)). Still, the 50th time someone asks if it is necessary to replace all the caps, want to jumper across a fuse, refuses to answer a question, posts a 2 Meg picture inline, or performs some other equally idiotic action I have to fight (usually unsuccessfully) an urge to ignore him.

In the case of the owner of Coppell TV Repair, any time spent answering email (especially ones with questions equivalent to those I described above) only detracts from his income.

Having worked in technical sales as one of the front line people, I can certainly understand there will be a certain % of time wasters, idiots, etc, but it comes with the job function. I tried to treat them all as I would like to be treated.

I worked on one account for 11 years (presentations, lunches, technical training sessions, etc) and had $0 to show for it. I had to at least try even knowing our chances of winning were close to 0%.

I just sent in my y-sus and both buffers to Coppell. Quick responce- needed to repair y-sus, one bad buffer and other on it's last leg. Repaired y-sus and replaced both buffers. 2 days and $220 later TV is working great. Repair tech wanted $430 to replace just y-sus and that wouldn't of fixed it due to the bad buffer. I though they were great to work with, great communication and very quick turn around. Would deffently do business with again.

Hi, I have a vizio plasma tv 52 "as well, and makes algusn days her screen went black, the sound works normally, but the image is so dark it's hardly something to watch.
If possible I would like you guys to help me know whether this defect can also be on board Ysus. If the Board Ysus'll have to buy here in the U.S., because here in Brazil there is no assistance for this tv.

                            Thank you all.

Not a happy camper. Have vizio p50hdtv10a with Manfacture date of Oct 2006. TV lost picture. Flashing white lines with no picture.
After conducting the tests described above, determined the y-sustain board was culprit. Removed and shipped to Coppel. A week and $130 bucks later, put repaired board in TV, and still not good. Had sound and picture but the image was bad.... Solid White horizontal lower half and red/white lines top half. If dont plug in cable box, have vertical white line in middle.

Time to trash this TV, and get me a new one. Wasted time & money!

I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.
