VIZIO VX37L: Backlight shuts off after a few minutes of use

    Hi everyone,

I have a VIZIO WX37L that stopped working suddenly, and could really use some help.

    Background:
When the problem started Initially, the VIZIO logo glows orange when the TV was plugged in. Turning the TV on resulted in the VIZIO logo turning white (however, no sound and no image). Two or three seconds later the VIZIO logo glows orange again.

I checked the Power Supply (PS) (Part#0500-0505-0420) by driving PS_ON high using two AA batteries (3.1v). This procedure allows me to troubleshoot the PS without the need of having the main board hooked up. I found out that the PS wasn't turning the 12 and 24 volts. Hence, I bought a new Power Supply over the internet and proceed to replace it.

    The Problem:
With the new Power Supply, I turned the TV and I was able to have picture and sound. However, after few minutes of use, the backlight shuts off (no picture, no sound). I checked the new Power Supply and found out that for some reason it stopped sending the 12 and 24 volts to the main an inverter boards, even though a PSON signal of 2.4v is still being sent by the main board.

With the TV turn on I took measurements of the five (AMC1117) voltage regulator chips (U2, U7, U8, U9, U33) that I found on the main board and the default voltages match the ones in the service manual.

I thought, the new power supply was faulty so I called the company that sold me this power supply and they told me that their Power Supply is OK and I should check the inverter board. At first glance, the inverter board looks OK (no bad caps and fuses are OK).

So this is where I am at now. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

2.4 volts for PSON is low. Check the PFC voltage.

I did some tests. First, I used a 5v. power adapter to send a HIGH signal to PSON in the power supply. The Power Supply still stopped sending the 12 and 24 volts to the main an inverter boards after few minutes of use. I tried the same test but this time I disconnect the cables that go from the power supply to the inverter board. This time the TV has sound but not picture (since the inverter didn't receive power). Again, after few minutes of use the power supply stopped sending 12 and 24 volts. I think the power supply is faulty. Any advice?

Replace or repair the power supply.
