This is my first time on this site and I apologize up front if I am going about this the wrong way. I don't post on forums much at all. I read some posts regarding the similar problems they were having and have quickly ascertained I may be in over my head. I have a Vizio VT420M LCD tv that has no sound or picture. The Vizio lights up, but nothing else. The screen stays black. I am able to turn the tv on/off with the remote or power button. I took the back off the tv and there are three boards. One on the left is the power supply and the one on the right, where the hdmi and other plugins are, is the main board. At the top of the back of the tv, in the middle, is a smaller board with a metal cover over it. I think this is the LCD Controller? Anyway, I would like to replace one of these boards and a couple of posts I have read on other forums said they replaced the inverter and that took care of their problem, which was identical to mine. Is the LCD Controller the same as the inverter? That is where I would like to start. Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This tv was given to me, so I am money a head anyway.Do my symptoms point to any one thing in particular?

Re: Vizio VT420M - No picture/No sound
It's been said many times, One picture is worth a thousand words.
While it is possible that the inverter is bad, typically you will still have sound with a bad inverter. The inverter is NOT the LCD controller.
PlainBillFor a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

Re: Vizio VT420M - No picture/No sound
You say the Vizio logo lights up as in changes state when turned on
Nothing else works?
I've seen that symptom on at least three or four Vizio repairs during the past several months
Typically it's been a SMD three terminal 3.3Vdc regulator on the board - <$3.00 for the part
Might want to look at the many AMC1117 regulatorsComment

by ggil44Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by MgiffuneI have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.
I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and... -
by IerwinHello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged... - Loading...
