    Samsung SP-S4243 No Picture 4-Blinks

    Hi,

I found this forum while searching for clues on how to fix a Samsung SP-S4243, which brought me to this post:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11170

Being so old, I figured it would be best to start a new thread...
(As an aside, PlainBill??? Why does that name sound familiar?? )

I also should mention that my "expertise" in fixing TVs consists of simply replacing PCBs that may be damaged and reflowing PCBs that don't have any obvious blown circuits.. I don't have any diagnostic equipment beyond a voltmeter/continuity tester.. In other words, a rank amateur....

Anyways, I have the afore mentioned TV. No picture and the power light blinks 4 times when plugged in...

I downloaded the repair manual that was mentioned in that previous thread, but I couldn't find any info on the diagnostic codes..

The PCBs within the TV don't appear to have any blown circuits or caps or anything. So usually my next step is to replace boards until I hit on the bad one.. Like I said, rank amateur

If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be most appreciative..

Darned if I know. I've been using it for more than a decade.

According to Wizard (who has much more experience than I do), Samsung does not use diagnostic codes, so I treat it as any other failure. Most TVs run a series of tests when the set is plugged in. If the LED only blinks four times, it's probably not indicating an error.

Now, while I could spend a lot of time giving suggestions, the football games will be starting in a few minutes. I suggest you take a few pictures - one of the back of the set, another of the power supply and attach them to your next post using 'Manage Attachments' - below the text entry area.

Well, that was a disappointing game.. It's so hard to be a Jags fan these days...

        OK, to TV talk..

I did some more tinkering yesterday and discovered that the TV will come on and the power light will stay on. Nothing else comes on though...

I took a picture of the TV, but I used my cell phone and it's not very clear.

I'll take some clearer ones and some closeups of the Power PCB when I get to my shop and post them...

        Thanx for the assist.

For a number of reasons, it is preferred that pictures be hosted here. Also, to be useable they should be sharp, well lit, and be as least 1000 pixels on a side, but not over 2000 due to site limitations. For sharpest focus, take the pictures from a point perpendicular to the board. Angle shots leave most of the board out of focus.

One other point - we are looking for quality, not quantity. One or two sharp pictures of a power supply can give me a lot of information. A dozen angle shots of the capacitors won't do any good.

              118.jpg is the whole enchilada...

IMAG0013.jpg is the large Power PCB

135.jpg is the smaller Power PCB

Let me know if any more detail is required...

              Thanx again for the assistance..

Hoo, boy. First, this isn't really worth much effort. It only has 852 x 480 resolution - standard definition. Friday you should be able to buy a new 42" HD TV for $300.

If you REALLY are determined to spend the time, you will need at least a DMM. Toward the bottom of the picture of the power supply is a 12 pin connector. The function of the pins are labeled. Measure the voltage on each of the pins; use the mounting screw as the ground point. Report the voltages and the description for each pin.

The picture you called the 'smaller pcb' is the X Main board. There IS a smaller power board just to the right of the main power supply. A Picture of that would be useful - you will probably have to remove the mounting brace to get a clear shot.

The Y-sustain is at the left side. After you are through measuring voltages, turn the TV off and check the temperatures of the heat sinks on the Y-sustain and the X Main. They should be at least comfortably warm.

Re: Samsung SP-S4243 No Picture 4-Blinks

Sorry about not getting to this sooner...

I've had some kinda flu the last few days and I feel like crap. Took some cold/flu stuff and it made me loopy on top of feeling like crap..

Anyways, I am going to check those voltages today..

I don't mind saying, I have always been a bit wary (ie chickensh*t) of working around hi voltages which is why I usually just replace PCBs. But in this case, I guess it would be a good idea to know WHICH PCB to replace, eh?? If it's going to be too much, I'll just likely go with your advice and chuck it for a new one..

The only thing I have to do check voltages is pictured in the attachments.

                  Is that sufficient???

I'll get a pic of the smaller PCB Power board when I get to my shop..

                  Thanx again...

Normally when I use this meter for laptop power supplies and such, I use the marked setting (20)

I am assuming I need to change the setting for measuring the voltage on this TV... True?

On the back of the panel should be a label with a number of voltages Va, for example. The first step is to verify those voltages are correct on teh output of the main power supply and the outputs of the small supply.. Any other power supply output lines that give an exact voltage (5V, 12V, etc) should also be verified.

                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds

                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                          Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...
