LG 50PG60 Plasma Botton Half of Screen Out

This forum has been incredible helpful to me before, and I'm hoping you guys can give me some more advice and help me out again.

I came across an LG 50PG60 50" plasma real cheap, and thought I'd take a gamble to see if I could get it up and running. The top 1/3 of the screen is crystal clear, and the botton 2/3 is black.

All voltages check out from best I could tell, and a buddy who knows more than I do recommended I change out the Y-buffers. I bought them on ebay, and when I change them out, the entire screen lights up but is completely distorted and flashing mostly white light, with random red and black lines (picture 4). I put the old buffers back in and it goes back to the way it started out, with just the top 1/3 working crystal clear.

I'm at work right now so I won't be able to get to it until the morning, but any advice on where to start would be very much appreciated. Pic 1 is of the TV with the old buffers in, pic 2 the entire back, pic 3 is the y-sus, and 4 is the screen with the new buffers in. Thanks!

It looks like a Ysus problem. But if the buffers were connected to a bad sustain, they could have been damaged; ideally you'd replace the Ysus at the same time.

Wow, I have the same problem but haven't replaced any buffers. Did you ever find out what was wrong with the tv?

Lower buffer was the problem with the one I was working on. I had another LG that the YSUS was blown and the lower buffer too.

If you have a problem and you suspect the YSUS or ZSUS, touch the large heatsink when it's running. It should be warm.

I have the same prolbem..but the pictue at top half is
2-3" wide..but crystsl clear. bottom buffer was replaced.
The y main has all proper voltages and the heat sinks arent warm

You can just change the chips under the heatsink. I did on an Akai tv made by LG but most people want $50 for the chip. You can get a used board probably for $75. Not worth the hassle changing the chip.
