First off i am very new to this site... actually signed up today but have been reading for a few days now. my 42" Vizio VX42L has had a flickering screen for a while now. at first it would only be temporary, i would turn it on and it would flicker for a minute or two and then stop, but now it flickers nonstop... sometimes i can turn it off and on for 5-20 minutes (its completly random) and it works just fine, other times it wont work at all. i have been reading some of the threads about replacing caps. i took off the back of the tv and had myself a look. i think i see the bad cap but im not entirely sure so im going to post a image of what i think is the bad one. i did take some electronics classes in highschool years ago where i did some soldering, and i have tinkered with electronics here and there for the past few years but im by no means an expert, if anyone could give me a step by step walkthrough from removing the cap, to what type and where to buy a new one, to soldering the new cap back on, i would forever be in your debt... the longer my tv is out of order the faster i fall behind on call of duty and Gears 3 lol. ill post pics after this post because my camera isnt working atm

Re: Vizio 42" VX42L Flickering Screen
First step - post in the correct forum!!! You should post in Badcaps Forums > Electronics Theory and Troubleshooting > Troubleshooting TVs and Video Sources. Ask a mod to move the thread.
Second step. Pretend this is an essay for English class. Use proper capitalization, short sentences, and good sentence structure. If we can't understand you, we can't help you.
Third step. Take several pictures. If at all possible, take them in natural light, with no flash. Pictures with a resolution of at least 1000 x 1000 pixels without going over 2000 pixels in either direction are best. Attach them using 'Manage Attachments - below the text entry area. Do hot post inline.
The first picture should be an overall shot of the back of the TV. The second should be a picture of the power supply, taken from directly overhead. Of course, if you want to indicate any caps you suspect are bad, that would be appreciated.

by spice_discI'm currently trying to diagnose and fix my Vizio TV (Model M50-C1). I've tried a number of different basic solutions, but I'm trying to determine if my issue is currently a failing panel, T-Con board, or main board (or something else entirely) and whether or not it is worth my time to fix it. Details of the issue and what I've tried are below as well as why I think it is either a bad panel, T-Con board, or main board.
The Issue: The TV will be on and working fine but after the TV is on for ~5-10 minutes the screen will freeze (with sound continuing) until the TV reboots itself. While...1 Photo -
by Ado02Hello everyone,
We recently replaced the OLED screen on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Gen 10. After about a month, the replacement screen began to flicker. Initially, updating the IntelĀ® IrisĀ® Xe graphics driver resolved the issue for about a week. However, when the problem recurred, updating the driver again had no effect.
The flickering only occurs once the system reaches the Windows login screen. Interestingly, if we disable the Intel GPU driver or connect the laptop to an external monitor, the flickering stops. We have tried installing two different replacement screens,...12-16-2024, 02:33 PM -
by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -
by reformattJust had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".
It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...07-31-2025, 08:37 PM -

This device came in due to the screen flickering if you use the touchpad or external mouse. It will flicker black when this occurs. If you use the touchscreen, the behavior does not appear. Also, if connected to external monitor, the external monitor is not affected by the flickering. I did a good amount of research on this, and concluded that it is due to the display driver. HP does not offer Windows 11 drivers for this model so I got the replacement drivers direct from Intel. I installed them and the problem... - Loading...
