HP ENVY HP 13-aq1013dx - screen flickering black if using touchpad or external mouse

This device came in due to the screen flickering if you use the touchpad or external mouse. It will flicker black when this occurs. If you use the touchscreen, the behavior does not appear. Also, if connected to external monitor, the external monitor is not affected by the flickering. I did a good amount of research on this, and concluded that it is due to the display driver. HP does not offer Windows 11 drivers for this model so I got the replacement drivers direct from Intel. I installed them and the problem went away, however now the customer has returned and the problem as come back.

Here is a video of the behavior: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7X9ymqnbjVmrPLFN8

are you completely sure it's a driver issue? maybe windows replaced said driver. I would try with a linux bootable usb and see what happens. I watched your video, but its cut before I can see what happens after you remove your finger from touchpad: video comes back or not? have you got the schematic or mb code?

I booted to a Linux environment and the problem is not present. To answer your question about what happens if you stop touching the touchpad/moving the mouse cursor, after a few seconds, the video will come back and appear normal - until you move the cursor again. I will have to check and see if Windows replaced my driver. Can't imagine it would have as the driver from intel was much newer, but who knows.... Windows...

**UPDATE** You nailed it. The video driver is back to the 2020 version, which is the old one.

You need to disable automatic driver updates from Windows Update to prevent the issue from coming back

        Also do this:
        1. Disconnect internet
        2. Go to device manager, right click the Intel graphics, uninstall, mark the checkbox "Delete the driver software for this device"
        3. Install the driver downloaded from Intel website

Then follow the steps below (preferably with internet disconnected) to disable automatic driver updates, after that, connect to the internet and check windows update if the buggy video drivers are being downloaded

Sometimes for whatever reason Windows likes to install drivers from Windows update even if they're older (happens mostly with graphics drivers), or when there's a "feature update" (example: from 23h2 to 24h2)
