Got me a 42" Dynex DX-L42-10A dumpster diving...

Have yet to getting around to tearing it down, but I hope there ain't too much wrong with it considering it was manufactured less than two years ago.

So far I'm getting Blue/Red Leds upon plugging it in and hitting the power button but absolutely nothing on the screen.

Don't see any bulging caps on the power supply, but they appear to be no-name JT caps.

Will post pics when I get it all took apart.

Thanks. I gots way too much crap in my house, I'm in the process of de-junking it and moving crap out to the storage building. Problem has been the heat coupled with mother nature. I can't work out there during the day cause its too hot and full of wasps, and wasps will gladly come out at night should I get to stirring around much.

But the worst offender are those damn horseflies. They are not bad in the daytime, but at night if ya move, here they come buzzing. And lemme tell ya, they are some brave little bastards... they have absolutely no fear. I have done swatted TWO of them tonight trying to get a meal off my back. And yes, they ALWAYS get ya on your backside whether it be your back back or back of your leg.

Why do I detest them so much? Imagine one of those diabetic lancets sticking into your back. Now take that lancet, rub it on some sandpaper till its nice and dull, and do it again. This time just keep it moving in and out of the same hole. Thats what a horsefly bite feels like.

I finally broke down and set off a bug bomb in there, I'm hoping this fixes the problem. Need just need something to get rid of the snakes that like to take up residence in there... normally I'm not afraid of them, but about a month ago I got cornered by two cottonmouths. They had me pinned but I got ahold of the shovel and well, it was on. Me 2, snakes 0.

I should have it tore down by the end of the day.

Ok, got it tore down. Sorry no pics, I need some more lithium batteries for my digital camera.

PSU looks good, no bulges. Have not tested output voltages since I found some obvious probs in the inverter board. Turns out one of the inductors after the transformer and before one of the ccfl bulbs had a cold joint and was arcing/heating up. That and there looks like some of the solder has melted on what looks to be two copper pads marked "CP1'. Amazingly the inverter board had Nichicon caps on it... looks like the leads were getting hot for some reason though. All the pico fuses are testing good.

So whatcha think maybe take out the iron and reflow some joints?

Anyhoos I will try and hunt down a battery for my camera to get some pics of the boards.

Got it working. Turns out it was a cold solder joint on the inverter board. Reflowed all of them with some fresh non-Rohs stuff plugged it in and it fired right up.

This has to be the absolute best shit I got dumpster diving, well cept maybe that police radar gun... heheh.

            Pics to come soon.

Here is be the pics. Sorry tried using the board uploader, got a token error so I just photobucket'd em.

Its pretty easy to spot the dicked up joint, and I still have no clue what CP1 is... its next to the copper pads on the inverter board between the two SMD IC's... 3 oclock from the one on the right, and 6 oclock nearly straight down from the big IC up top. Not for sure what was supposed to be there if anything. Went ahead and desoldered it, figured I would try out the inverter board without it first, and if it didn't work, then go ahead and bridge it and see what happens. Looks like no bridging was necessary.

All in all the reason this TV died was simple. Poor workmanship. That inverter board should have never made it past the quality control inspectors.

Also on the I/O board there are two SMD capacitors up top near the middle that appear to be ever so slightly bulged. Not for sure if this is normal or not, but if its working, I figure I will just go ahead and leave em alone for now.

Fixed: Lenovo P14s Gen 1 (type 20Y1, 20Y2) Laptop (ThinkPad) bricked by a withdrawn BIOS update (r1buj82w)
                by akwky
                Hi!
Went dumpster-diving and found a bricked Lenovo P14S in trash, few weeks earlier. Symptoms - no screen, no POST, no beep, just keyboard LEDs flashing on powerup. Mute button+LED was responding though, and the display self-test was still working (via the key combo Ctrl+Fn+Power held for some seconds, see the Service manual).

Incidentally, Windows 11 have recently started auto-flashing computer BIOS in our region. Even more suspiciously, Lenovo has released a BIOS update just few days before the PC was trashed. About a week later, the BIOS update image has been oficially marked...

Hisense 58r6e3 black screen dumpster dive
                by Jne2016
                Hello all,

I was driving around and found a free hisense r6e3.
I figured what the he'll I fixed a free tv before with a new lamp.
So I plugged it in and got sound but no picture i see it light up though.

I've tried using a flashlight to see a faint image no luck.

I've tried unplugging a ribbon cable off the tcon board and the left side shows white when right is unplugged. All black when right is in.

I saw a video were someone taped off some off the ribbon and it worked but I don't know how you find which pins to block off. And if...

Dynex tv with model #32L200a12 turns on, but shows "please wait..." quickly...
                by SCCronauer25
I am trying to fix my Dynex tv. The PSB is new and so is the Control Board, but when I turn it on, I get "please wait..." on screen, then it quickly goes black. I have the back of it off and checking voltages shows 5v standby and 2.5v supply comes on going away/into PSB/Control Board, 24v is present on PSB (getting .4v on most, if not all, backlight lines, 5v to backlight is there also), the control board's heatsink staying hot to the touch, plus the 2.5v going away/into the PSB/Control Board, gives me the impression it is on. What else should I check for?

Check power supply for bad(puffy) capacitors. I found 4 1000uf caps bloated. Replaced and all is good again.
