    HIU-607 (HPC-1518) inverter problem

    Hello Everyone,

The above inverter is in a Benq DV2680 LCD TV. The back-light works fine for about a minute or so and after that it shuts down.
The control signals to the inverter (on/off, dimming) are the same after the shut down.
The inverter is running on 24V. I have checked the power supply, all the caps
are OK, the 24V is there, there is no increasing current draw.
The 24V gets to the Royer inverters, it gets through the fuse and the FET switch on the inverter board, even after the shut down.
There is nothing visually amiss on the board, no darkened or charred components.
The board feeds eight tubes (it may be four U-shaped tubes), with four dual transformer Royer circuits. Beyond those there are a number of comparators, but no dedicated control IC.

Does anyone have by chance a circuit diagram of the board? (The board has some tiny SM
components, it would be hard to draw out that part of the circuit.)
Any other advice on how to proceed with the testing/repair?

    Thanks, Peter

At the risk of repeating myself, "A picture is worth a thousand words". Do not post pictures inline, use 'Manage Attachments' - below the text entry area. And to paraphrase retiredcaps, 'Two seconds to black can be caused by bad caps, a bad CCFL or wiring to a CCFL, a bad transformer, or sense circuit problems'.

There are numerous approaches. By far the easiest is to substitute a known good CCFL in turn for each ccfl in the TV.

In the absence of a spare CCFL, the easiest is to test the secondary resistance of each transformer. They should match to within 3%.

Disassembling the LCD panel to the point you can observe each CCFL is a third (less desirable) option.

      Hi Bill,

Thanks for the tip of checking the secondaries of the transformers, apparently one of the coils is open.
I did find a replacement transformer at lcdparts.net. They claim it is for the HIV-607 board, however, the part number is a bit different. They are selling HIT2820521J versus HIT 282 042J that is on my board. I wonder if the last four characters are a date code? I sent them an e-mail asking them.

      Thanks, Peter

You are correct, that's probably a date code or production lot. The one I had only the first 5 characters were significant, the last 6 were date code, production lot, or FRU number of the person who wound it.

          Re: Update - HIU-607 (HPC-1518) inverter problem

          Just a quick update.
I did receive the replacement transformer finally, installed it, and now the backlight stays on!
I also did find about a dozen questionable (with higher ESR than the good ones) electrolytic capacitors on the main board that I also replaced.

          Thanks for the help, Peter

HANNSG Hi221 -- 2 secs to black feat. CCFL flicker & "burn" marks on power board
              by ttmi100x
              Greetings everyone,

I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

              Upon closer inspection...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
              by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

              by Hakuu
              Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

              More Details
