Panasonic TH-42PX60U - Sound, but poor picture

I have a panasonic TH-42PX60U. The sound works fine, but there are vertical lines that take up the whole screen. They vary in color and move sporadically. Sometimes the screen goes completely green. The "menu" shows clearly.

This happens with all inputs, so I think it is something with a circuit board. The problem does not clear as the TV warms up. I ran diagnostic with "volume -" and "menu" and that is ok. I have left it unplugged overnight, and no change.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Pics are attached.

    The service manual is here.

Please verify the menus do not have the problem. I note the OSD is clear.

That would indicate a problem on the input (terminal?) board or perhaps the next board in the signal path. I would suspect a bad cap or a noisy LDO regulator.

      PlainBill:

Thanks for the quick response. The menus do not have the problem. I ran through all of them and they are fine (are without distortion). I will read through the manual tomorrow. Thanks.

I called a few places, and they think it may be the Y-sustain board. What do you think?

Does that have the PC VGA input in the front panel?

If yes, try plugging your computer VGA monitor cable into it and switch input to PC. If it clears and shows the PC desktop, it's the main processor board DG.

I think they are either lazy, trying to rip you off or are idiots. The fact that all menus are perfect tells me that the plasma panel and the Y and Z sustain boards are fine.

            I'd go with Toasty's suggestion.

The TV worked great for about 1 hour, then reverted to the same problem. I connected my laptop to the front and changed it to the appropriate video input - no luck. I even connected it to the open video connections to the back and no change.

Any other suggestions? I appreciate ya'lls help.

I did some more research, possibly the D-board?

Perhaps determine where the OSD is generated, since it's good no matter what happens?

Look at the overall block diagram and any other individual board block diagram.

I would think that whatever board follows that one would be okay.
