Samsung 46" 6500 LED backlight issue

    Greetings!

We have a 46" Samsung 6500 LED TV that I have just noticed one of the lamps appears to be out on it. There is a shadow on the bottom of the TV, roughly 1/4 the total length of the screen. The unit is under warranty, so I will not be attempting a self repair on this, but I just wondered if anybody has seen issues with these LED backlights already? Or, if that is actually what's wrong with it? The TV is around 6 months old, and it's used roughly 3-4 hours/day, I wouldn't expect to see a failure so quickly!

    Thanks,

    Steve

A 6 month old TV should be still under manufacturer's warranty. Call Samsung and get a guy out there to fix it. If it's not under warranty, it's gonna be hard to get a replacement bulb....Sorry.

Led tvs don't have bubs, or even ccfls. They have a matrix of leds behind the lcd instead, which is why they're thinner, and have better colors/ black levels because the leds can be locally dimned where as bulbs cannot. I would suspect the driver board for the leds or even the cable from the board to the leds. Let us know whet the tech finds.

Sorry, i misread the LED for LCD. I think it's interesting that there seem to be just as many problems with the LED's as there were with the LCD's. Of course, we'll know once they are out of warranty. We'll see how many get posted here.

Thanks guys, I never knew exactly how the backlight array was configured on the LED's. I will post as soon as I hear from the repair guy.

Re: Samsung 46" 6500 LED backlight issue

Triad of RGB LEDs behind the LCD was in older B750 models, now currently all Samsung LED LCDs use strip of white LEDs around the edge on all 4 sides.

Sharp use white LEDs behind the LCD (I owned it for few days, hurt my eyes returned it for Samsung LED 32"). LG uses local dimming feature on LEDs behind LCD. Samsung also do partial local dimming now on D series.

And yes invoke the warranty on that TV and Samsung will take care of this by either take it to authorized shop or shop can pick it up for you if in the area.
Also since C series of all thin panels, the design is the LEDs are in strips is in halve down the middle via 2 connectors, each connector have six wires, each pair of wires is for one strip of LEDs, total of six strips. Three on one side and other three on other side arrange around the edge.

Get your facts straight on types of LED design in current TVs and past.

            Cheers, Wizard

As I'm dealing with an Samsung LED lit TV problem right now myself, there's really not a whole lot of readily available resources out there for the laymen to educate yourself on. Manufacturers aren't exactly forthcoming with TV construction information.

LED backlit LCD's, in my opinion, should be easier to fix than the CCFL LCD's. If you want to post some pictures of the boards and post them, you'll still get help here even if there are no tech documents out there. Just start a thread with the model number of your set.

Thanks Dg, I already have started one, the issue I have I think might be unique and since my expertise in electronic troubleshooting is limited it might be hard for me to answer some of the questions. I think what I have is the loss of a bank of LED back lights, not in a single area but say...every 3rd light in the edge light ring. I've been able to crank the back light to full and escalate the built in brightness/gamma to get an almost normal screen, this really shows in the contrast levels though as the darks are noticeably greyed. Still a somewhat unique issue as most stuff I've seen is all or nothing on the picture/backlights.

                    Hello All!

So here is the issue I am having. When everything is plugged in as normal, the TV turns on and I get a quick flash of the backlight. After that the backlight never turns back on but the rest of the TV works fine. If I pull the PWM pin from the cable between the main board and power board the backlight turns on and the tv works "normally". If it is plugged in I get nothing. I did do a factory reset but that didn't solve my issue. When everything is plugged in normally I get .6v at start up and continues rise over about 10 seconds. (~.6v then ~.8v then ~1.8v...

                    Hello Team,

I'm back with another backlight issue that I thought was simple, but it turned out to be more complex than expected.

Let me provide a brief history: The TV was working well, then one day, the backlight started and shut down. I thought I had an LED issue leading to this behavior, so I replaced the LEDs with brand new ones. However, the issue remains the same.

Next, I replaced the electrolytic capacitors attached to the LED power supply, but the results were the same. I then replaced the driver, a OB3365RP, and did it twice due to the same result....

                    Samsung un65eh6000 backlight issue

                    Hi All,
                    I have a Samsung Un65eh6000 with a backlight issue.

The original issue was backlight current was present but led strips did not light

I tested the backlights and all tested to be working properly.

I assumed then that the power supply was not sending current to the led strips.
Power supply board part number BN44-00560A.
After checking voltages it appears that current output at connector CNL802 was outputting the correct current 189 VDC on pins 1,2,6, and 8.

The issue then was there was no ground on the connector...

Samsung UE48JU7000 screen issue after backlight replacement
                    by ScHAmPi
                    Hi all,

Because of two bright spots and a couple of dark spots I decided to replace the backlights in my Samsung UE48JU7000. See attached photos:

I thought all went well, but after full assembly and testing it out it turns out not all is fine. The backlights are completely fine but I have some weird issues on the right half of the screen. Since I didn't really touch the T-CON board (apart from taking out the ribbons of the display and reconnecting them on assembly) it would be weird that the issue is with the T-CON board... But based on the behavior of the service...

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue
                    by cheebster
Hello, got an iPad Pro A2378 12.9 5th gen with no backlight. Got another test unit without screen, tested the screen, still no backlight with the test unit.
Figured out the backlight on the screen was bad, ordred a new backlight from mobilesentrix, *carefully replaced it* without damaging the lcd, oh well.
Final result, issue is still there, the screen has no back lights. So i'm back to square one, with 3 hours less and 100$ out, issue still on the screen.
The panel is still ok, i can see the apple in the middle of the screen when it kicks in, just no backlight.
                    Anyone...
