philips 42" 42pfl5432d/37 power issue and fix!

Hi guys. Picked this up tonight. Has all the symptoms i wanted to hear: " about a year after i bought it it started shutting off on its own, then it would power on and off several times.. over time just got worse, and now it just powers on for a few secs then shuts off"

SO i check it out sure enough plug it in, red light.. yay. Hit power, led turned green, i had an image for a few secs, the the tv would shut back off just like i pressed the power button. (red light on solid). I looked through the air vents of the tv with a flashlight and i could see vented caps

Ok so we we struck a deal, (the guy really drove a hard bargian) but somehow i just knew this was a simple fix so i went for it.

Took it apart and this is what i found. All larger caps bulged or leaking( filter cap and smaller caps look ok) all caps on mainboard look o.k.

I replaced those 4 caps and the tv is working like new. I figured i would share the fix but i think this has probhably been covered on the same or simular model already. Heres some nice high res pics for you to enjoy!

Nice work. We have the same TV that was doing the same thing that we have owned new since 2007-2008. Until it just stopped all together. When I took it apart those same caps were swollen on ours. Maybe caught it too late before it ruined something else.

I'm not 100% sure what is wrong with it but I see browning on the tape of the transformer T904 and on the Zener Diode in front of it. Since I had no idea what kind of transformer to replace it with I decided to try a different direction with it.

Looks like you lucked out though. Should be a warning to all who have this model of TV replace your dang Caps before it is too late.

EDIT: I don't know if this is exclusive to our TV or the entire model, but I noticed that the CCFL on our TV used to get really hot. Which is left on for a long time would heat the panel up and cause image persistence. It is alright for normal viewing purposes, but if you have the TV on for ~5 hours and pull up the TV guide for 3 seconds and put it away a temprary image of the guide will be on the TV. I didn't learn about this problem until me and my friends played Bombermann for 2 hours and the map (which never changes) was permanently burnt into the TV. Just a word of warning.

could be a caps issue both ways there. Take some good pics of your caps and other suspected issues.....

Cadillac, I'm just curious how much you paid for this?

If you don't mind me asking?

Depends on the values (V, uF and series) and where in the world you're located.
From what I can tell by the pics, they're CapXon 16V 2200uF, but I can't tell which series they are and if all of them are the same values..

sorry for the super late reply, i dont get much free time these days. I think i actually bent over $100 on this set because i could see the vented caps through the heat grilles on top there hehe.. I havent ben able to do this much anymore, no time, no money, and when you go to sell nobody has money to spend either.

In the end, it was a good investment yes.

Bob rob caps are good enough for something your selling but if you guys are keeping it get some good caps like panisonic fm series or something simular. 105 degree, low esr caps are what you want. I think the guy that runs badcaps.org might sell caps too.

I have a Philips 42PFL5432D. The screen went black and started chirping like a bird. I took the back off of the TV and plugged back in and turned on. The chirping was coming from the zener diodes part number P6KE120A DO-15. I ordered new ones and replaced both. I put the board back in and plugged into outlet. Upon power on, screen came up and started to flash in and out. It does this in and out thing to include sound. Any ideas? I think i am going to try to replace the caps as well.

Try caps chris very common. Are any vented? It doesn't mean they're ok if they haven't vented but it's a cheap job anyway and reliability will improve. Never heard of a diode chirping :O sounds more like the SMPS was tripping or in distress

I placed the order for panasonic caps and will update as soon as i replace. I am keeping my fingers crossed. My total so far is $25.00 and this includes shipping. I cant complain yet.

                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Acer Spin 1 SP111-33 Power-On Issue (Troubleshooting Assistance)
                            by justice171
I am seeking guidance on an Acer Spin 1 SP111-33 that does not turn on when pressing the power button.

Below are the observations and troubleshooting steps I have taken so far: Observations and Tests:
                            1. Verified that all critical voltages are present:
                              • 3.3V and 5V are always present if DC is plugged.
                              • 1.8V on the BIOS chip is present.
                            2. Checked the power button functionality:
                              • When pressed, the voltage drops to 0V, indicating the button is functional.
                            3. Inspected the flex cable connecting the USB, audio, and power button to JUB1:
                              • Confirmed connectivity is intact, ruling out issues
                            ...

hi guys, my motherboard will not start no matter what
when connected to ac power, the battery does get charge, led indicator glows red when discharged and turns white as it is fully charged.
but rest nothing happens no sign of life.

this laptop has one preexisting usbc power issue - so i use DCIN jack for charging my laptop.
with this issue my laptop was unable to power ON only sometimes i just had to wait some time.
but now nothing happens no matter how much i wait/ charge/ press and hold power button.

i have no knowledge of motherboards ....

This one's a weird one, and still unsolved despite it having gone back to Dell once.

                            Specs

i7-8750H, GTX 1060 Max Q, 500GB SSD & Seagate 7mm 1TB HDD. 17.3 IPS screen. This has the fingerprint reader in the power button.

                            Backstory

I bought this from eBay, from a wallpapering shop. £650 in 2020 which was a good price considering it's a gaming laptop. Physically it's in perfect shape, apart from the hinge mounts on the palmrest failing in the time I've had it (I have a new palmrest for it). The usual thin plastic crap modern build quality!...

                            Hi everyone,

I am trying to fix a samsung washinmachine power supply main board.
I already replaced it with another one to fix the machine but i want to try understand the issue with the old board.
Therefore i hope to be able to get some help to explain what to check in order to troubleshoot.
The power supply board reference is the following: DC41-00189a
