Have a Phillips LCD 47PFL7403D chassis style LC8.1ULA that is having an intermittent problem with losing picture but still has sound. Was doing it a few months ago and stopped but has since started up again. I have read some of the posts on this forum about similar problems but don't see any where the issue is completely random. Seems like it would be a short somewhere but I'm a complete newb so not sure where to start. Any info would be most appreciated.

Does the screen go black, or dies the picture break up, go gray, or otherwise demonstrate that the backlights are working?
If the screen goes black, can you see an image on the screen if you shine a bright light on it (it can be tricky to see this)?
What (if anything) will cause the picture to come back?

The screen goes black, backlights are not working. Problem is corrected by turning it off and back on but that doesn't work every time. Sometimes when turning it back on some white light will show briefly but in splotches across the screen and then it will go black again. Other times turning it back on there are no problems. Usually doesn't start til it's been on for about 30 minutes but sometimes only 15. Doesn't happen every time but when it does, it does it a lot.

That definitely sounds like inverter problems, possibly a bad transformer.
The first step would be to take the back off and take a picture of the back of the TV. A single shot showing everything is sufficient at this time. From that I will point out specifics.
