    Re: vizio vp322 bad caps...

yeah the more i dig into stuff the more i realize i need one.

Ill get something someday with a cap thats changed value but not bulged, and ill end up chasing it forever befoore i finally figure it out.

Have any of you bought the " build it yourself" esr meter or is there a better one you reccomend?

THis tv was also my first experience with pb free solder. Not too bad, just had to turn my iron up a little hotter

Most of the krap im used to working on is 20-30 year old arcade game monitors, old car stareo equip and car audio amplifiers, etc. the flat panel tv is kind of new to me, but not at all horrible. I love how they label most of the pins so you know what they are right off the bat.

Cadillacman> glad you were able to find some use out this forum!

I'm in the process of repairing a little Dell 15" E153FPb that came from work.

      I hit this thread:

      And found everything I needed.

      Love this forum!

Ok, guys have a question on this VP322. I received this TV in a trade with a guy who does his best at repairing tvs with limited knowledge. He replaced a bunch of i presume vented capacitors and did a good solder job. The TV would show the orange Vizio logo and go to white when powered on with no pic or sound. I checked the board and there was no VS or VA when the set powered up. I started to tear into the board and check all the components. It turns out there was a bad mosfet and bad logical voltage regulator on the rail next to the plug for the mian board. I replace these and now the set turns on but I get a pop on the speakers like a voltage spike. Under further investigation I have VS and VA voltage high all the time so the screen shows a low glow when off. I unplugged all the connections except the main power and still VS and VA go high. I seem to still have a faulty component somewhere which i presume shows good without a load or a bad relay. Any ideas from any of the experts out there would be great.

            Re: vizio vp322 bad caps...

Are you referring to the 12V+ linear regulator at position IC103 and the FET at q201? Did you use a standard TO-220 package linear regulator as a replacement and forget to electrically isolate it from the heatsink rail? Also what make and series caps were used as replacements at c233 c234 c236 c241 c204 c238?

Looking at the datasheet it would take a United Chemicon KZE, Nichicon HD, Panasonic FR or FM series cap to match the specs on the original samwha WB series... of course I would be willing to bet that those Samwhas are just a tad bit overrated... looking at the specs on the datasheets the things are just about one step below motherboard grade caps. If the replacement caps that were used are spec'd too low it won't be too long before they fail again.

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
              by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

              Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
              by eryjus
              Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
              by Paxman_Swede
              Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Help with switching power supply caps
              by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
