    ApexGB 5108 chassis PU1

Hello everyone : Thanks for welcoming me to this wonderfull world of electronics repair . I am in Hollywood Fl ; a new member and this is my first post , just learning as I go along a bit at a time; will like to ask some help on this model Appex gb 5108 . The symptoms are red light on,sometimes blinking yellow 3 times and trying to go green , no video or audio . I checked the 125 v 8 amps glass fuse , is good (good continuity) on & off the set. But when I test for proper voltage across the fuse holder , meter shows 003 002 000 .It blanks out , can't find the line voltage . When I was testing the V across some resistances on the power supply board ,( black -) lead to chassis , the meter gives me a reading even without the ( red + ) being connected anywhere , reading is low on DC setting . This is my first attempt to repair a TV . When trying to power up , you could hear a little wizzing noise and then it goes away , I will like to test the switch but I am not sure how to access it , it seem like I would have to remove the bezzel around the screen to be able to get to it. If anyone could please help me with some info or schematic . I tried calling the Appex customer service but the weren't much help at all , any comments or advice would be deeply appreciate it , thanks to all . BB333 Ray .

You aren't going to find line voltage across the fuse unless the fuse is broken, as the job of the fuse is to pass voltage from point a to point b, and blow when a certain amount of current is drawn. Also if things light up, of course the fuse is good.

The whine indicates that the power supply is going into protect mode, could be just bad capacitors, could be shorted semiconductors. Pictures of the board would help. As clear and focused as possible, make sure that there is good light shining on the board so the flash doesn't drown things out, crop to 2000x2000 size and upload using the manage attachments button.

If the fuse doesn't pop there is no reason exchanging it for a lightbulb.

Hit the User CP, it should show all threads in which you have posted lately.

Hello there : I am still trying to fix the Apex , took the power supply off to test components , the main Filter capacitor made by Jianghai CD292 is a 450 Volts @ 820uf tested out of circuit , Value 745 mf , ESR 0.05 and down to 00.1 , leakage 888 blinking on a LC76 Porta Z Sencore meter . Using the Analog Ohmmeter on X1 and X10 it gave me very low resistance near zero and stayed there , never moved towards infinity . What's your opinion , is the capacitor shorted out , it seems that it never charged a bit even applying 400 volts to test leakage . Is the ESR normal that low for this cap , any help is appreciate it . Also on this board one Cap that is rated at 100 volts 470 mf is reading 520 mf instead . What's the reason , thanks again .

The cap appears to be shorted. You should have been able to answer that yourself if you had checked the manual for the explanation for the blinking 888.
