Yes, if we do get 12V, then you can go ahead and contact either MOUSER or Digikey to get the cap and the Zener diode.

ok i cut the 2 12v lcd wires and connected the wire for the middle of bulb to 1 of the 2 cut wires and left the other one loose and put the ground of the bulb to chassis ground is that correct? and the plug is plugged into the main board also
Use the Ground pin of the connector since I do not know if the Ground pin of that connector is connected to the chassis ground or not., you can verify but I would think it will be.
No, do not cut the ground wire, since you had verified that it is connected to the chassis, then you are ready to go, you can use the chassis and the Ground connection for the lamp.
If you have 12V regulated power supply that can supply minimum of 1.2A, then you can use it to power the 12VLCD line to see if you get the pictures OK on the screen.
