Intermittant power on - 42" Viore plasma

I have a 42" Viore Plasma (PDP42V18HA), 4 years old. When I hit the power switch, I hear the power supply clicks, the screen gets slightly brighter but it does not turn on, the LED goes green. Then it either turns off immediately or After about 4 minutes it turns off (LED out). I unplug it and try again. After a 2-3 cycles of this, and waiting the 4 minutes, it will power on and work perfectly fine. I took the back off and looked at the power supply, didn't see anything obvious. I looked at all the other visible boards, nothing obvious. I was tempted to replace the power supply but wasn't sure if a control board could create the same problem. Based on my symptoms, can anyone say if the power supply is my likely source?? Bulging caps: When caps bulge, is it significant and obvious or subtle for the trained eye??

It depends on your definition of 'obvious'. Some months back a gentleman was having problems with a monitor. 'The caps look perfect' according to him. After several posts that produced stranger and stranger information I suggested he attach a picture of the board in question. It wasn't a very good picture, but I quickly identified nearly a half-dozen caps with bulging tops. Replacing them solved his problem.

While I would NEVER suggest you are as undiscerning as that gentleman, read the links in my signature and attach a picture of the power supply.

Most of your pics are blurry, but from what I can tell the caps look okay. That doesn't mean anything though.

If PlainBill asks for more photos, for best picture quality and clarity take your boards to a window on a sunny day, turn flash off, and use macro mode. Take a top down view of all your boards (front and back). Make sure the photo is legible so that we can read the PCB printing clearly. A shutter speed of 1/125 or faster will produce nice clear focused pictures. Try to get a photo that is 2000x2000 resolution or as close as possible.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Re: Intermittant power on - 42" Viore plasma

Usually I prefer one good clear picture over many blurry ones. From what I can tell, there are no obvious bulging caps. The one on the corner of the first picture in the second group looks like there might be a slight bulge.

As retiredcaps suggested, I'd like a single picture from directly overhead with resolution of as close to 2000 x 2000 as possible. Under those conditions any bulging is very obvious.

One problem is some manufacturers have mastered the technique of building caps that fail without visible evidence. Another problem is there are additional supplies on some of the other boards which can also cause problems.

These pictures should be clearer. On the back side of the board, there is a dark spot at a solder joint. The component is an amp, mounted to a heat sink. can't see the part number of the amp. THe power supply number is USP440M-42LP

THe picture of the back of the board shows a dark spot at some solder joints. The soldered component isn't an amp, it is a MR5060.

                Thanks for all the help.

                          Hi
Identifying bad caps by just looking to them can be deceiving. In my experience i have found some bad capacitors with high ESR value, even though, they looked perfect, no bulge or whatsoever. So i recommend to get en ESR meter from ebay to test them out of circuit.
Another advice.Capacitors are not always the origin of failure in spms. Just test other components, like diode, Mosfets...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
