    Samsung LNS3241D (PICS of Problem)

    Hi guys.

    First time poster here.

I have a Samsung LNS3241D and I have RGB HORZ lines through the screen.

    I have sound.

The lines also do-not run through the OSD.

When I goto HDMI input I get the whole screen full of RGB dots.....

I appreciate any info or suggestions guys....

You did right diagnosis by putting menu on it. Your LCD is fine.

Check for bulging capacitors on power supply and replace if found. If not present, replace mainboard.

    Cheers, Wizard

sounds like the DSP is failing, or solder is working loose on the BGA itself.

      could be caps too.

Honestly? Head down to the art store and buy a frame for it. Hang it on the wall next to your computer.

Good luck with that fix/replacement. If you do replace the whole set - Samsung means the opposite of "Guaranteed Good Replacement". Stay away from Samsung, Dell, Philips/Magnavox.

If its gonna be another one of those threads again, my 2 cents is to not buy any new TVs. they are ALL junk. get an old 70s, 80s model and restore it. they will last 50 times longer than any new one will.

like the RCA CTC167 chassis was an extremely reliable one. 169 came out which ended that trend.

Bulls**t. I have two HDTVs more than 5 years old. There is no way a CRT TV is going to last 250 years. Heck, the CRT isn't going to last 25 years with daily use.

Hey!! Not everyone has as good as eyesight as you, PB. Heck, all TV's are fuzzy to me.

To keep this reply on topic, I personally prefer the Sharp Aquos line. Reasonably priced, good performance.

other than a few caps the ctc 169 was a rather good chassis.
many of my regulars still have them after some minor repairs.a few 140's too.

A quick check seems to indicate that chassis was introduced in the early 1990s, right?

                                    I think I spoke to soon. The tv now does some weird things;

If I am watching Football on espn and the game is on it seems to work ok but when it goes to a commercial and there is more black on the screen than white the whole pic vanishes for a sec then comes back when the games starts!??! What the?

If i turn on Pic-In-A-PIC mode the screen never shuts off but then I ahve to deal wiht this big block in the way for the screen.... UGH!

I am guessing I need to find another motherboard?

                                    Thoughts?
