Sharp Fax UX-120 bad Nichicon PL

Yes the Sharp Fax is full of Nichicon. I took it apart because it was showing signs of a bad cap, ripple being printed on a fax sheet. After removing some caps with the intent to replace all I discovered one Nichicon 680u 10V PL on the output of the SMPS had leaked onto the PCB and corroded it's own leads inside the mounting holes. The leak was through the seal of one lead.

Well I know TC has found this series of cap to be reliable so it must be an odd imperfect.

It is being replaced by a Ruby ZL of the same value.

Re: Sharp Fax UX-120 bad Nichicon PL

Well I changed the blown Nichicon. It made no difference so changed all Nichicons and now works perfectly. AND horror of horrors I could only get 200uF 400V and 2200uF 35V in LELON!!!!. But it works. For how long we shall see.

Lelon are stocked in vast numbers by Altronics in Australia.

Hmm...I was wondering only a week ago what brand(s) Altronics supplied. Thanks.

Hey Davmax sorry to bring and old thread from the grave but I'm fixing my fathers old Sharp thermal fax and came across this thread.

It has been running for 15 years non-stop unfortunately it was shut down a year ago and I guess when the caps cooled down all hell broke loose.

The copies started turning out light with streaks (See Picture).

Is this the same problem you experienced?

I replaced all of the supply caps accept the line filter and some Nichicon PLs in odd values 56 uf and 82uf and a 330uf at 35 volts I don't have these in stock nor do I have the 2 560uf 35V jobs.

The brown caps are the ones I haven't replaced.

Before I order them I would like to know if your printouts were similar. Oddly enough it prints out the transaction report just fine but copies turn out this way.

holy shit, that board is fried pretty badly. i can imagine that not only the caps are cooked.

Re: Sharp Fax UX-120 bad Nichicon PL

Thats actually darkening of the hard paper PCB from years of heat. The PSU works just fine.

ESR values out of circuit. These are the suspect caps.

            56uf 6.2 ohms
            56 uf 1.0 ohms
            82 uf 1.1 ohms
            82 uf 2.3 ohms

The other caps are normal but I will replace them anyway.

These caps are Nichicon PLs would Panasonic FCs work in their place?

The datasheet says that the PLs are "ultra low ESR".

Years of heat killed the caps no doubt. Well mine has been running 24/7 since I replaced all the caps (even with new Lelon). It is running very well.

Sorry I cannot remember the print output but it was certainly unusable with black steaking down the right side.

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
                by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

                Mid/late 80's Nichicon Yellow Caps
                by nick3092
I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking. Below are pictures of the caps. The only thing not shown in these...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Sharp Aquos Lc-80LE757U flashing Sharp on screen when plugged in
                by sefoster
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-80LE757U that randomly made a loud popping noise when when watching TV one day. We found that the fuse blew and the thermistor. We ended up replacing the entire power supply board and have also replaced the TCON board. Now as soon as I plug the TV in it lights up and has the Sharp logo flashing on and off of the screen. If I unplug the ribbon cable from the TCON board to the main board I get the 2 long 5 short error code. Any ideas on where to go from here? We've tried resetting it but nothing has worked. If we plug it in and let it cycle through the flashing of the Sharp...

Is there datasheet for nichicon LXJ series?
                by chth96
I want to calculate capacitor ESR referring to below guide.

                https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

                I must find out dissipation factor(Tan(δ)) for nichicon lxj series(6.3v 1500uf,25v 1000uf ,10v 2200uf)
I finally found out datasheet which has all series of nichicon capacitor. But unfortunately, It removed old nichicon capacitor.
Is there anyone who still has old nichicon datasheet which has information of LXJ series?
