Well, that is true RJ… That’s why I suggested a PSU as well.

I found a nice video from LER explaining how an ATX power supply works. The older ones and the newer ones. Pretty well done!

The videos are nice I'm a long time subscriber.

I have removed relay and one suspect choke, still the sound remains when PSU is started even without relay. I mean it does not start but sound still can be heared.

I applied enamel coating on all chokes, maybe that will fix it.

        All line are working +12 +5 -12 +3.3 +5VSB

Enamel coating dried but chirping is not gone.
I connected PSU to test board, about 250W load. It works runs benchmarks no problems.
However the chirping sound gets faster and faster with load.

          Voltages are OK.

Very strange i double checked caps and my esr meters (2 of them) say all caps good including 2 big ones.
two big ones are 330uF and I measure 300uF, esr is within spec not more then 0.1Ohms
I connected anothe 220uF cap and it seems the cycle increased (without scope that is hard to say), so that confirms it's PFC circuit????

PSU does not chirp until started so it's not +5VSB circuit? NOT PFC circuit, but then what chirps if I removed starting relay and when started it chirps, obviously no voltages are working with removed relay except +5vsb

Those 2 big caps won’t get rid of your chirping. Take a dry wooden spoon to your ear and see if you can pin point it. My guess is that big transformer.

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
              by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
              1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
              2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
              3. Problem: TV shuts down

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
              by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

              Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
              https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...

Dell D635EF DELTA DPS-635AB PSU with blown TNY280PN
              by Dynamite76
Recently I got a DELL PSU from a presision T3600. It is a 635W PSU which went out with a bang and some black smoke. The model of the PSU is a D635EF made by DELTA.

The cause of the bang was a blown. TNY280PN Chip. How ever as a result or as a causo also two SMD resistors are smoked. I have been able to replace the TNY280 Chip but I do not know the values of the resistors. The resistors are within the Drain line of the TNY. I can not find the schematic of this PSU. THe resistor are Open Loop and on the voltage accross them is about 330V. (EU)

              Any suggestions for...

              Thinkpad X1 Carbon "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021" VCC3M problem
              by Zeonalbasta
              i have a problem with thinkpad X1 carbon gen 2 "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021"
The laptop was turned off because the MOSFET was not transmitting voltage. After checking it turned out that the gate pin on the MOSFET was the problem, because it was producing an inappropriate voltage. and it was discovered that the problem was with the Think engine, so I decided to reprint each pin, and finally the mosfet could work properly. However, there is another problem, even though the voltage has been supplied to the laptop, it still won't turn on, there isn't even an LED indicator. After double...
