    FSP FSP460-60PFN Bad Fuhjyyu

Hello all! First of all, I've had this PSU for about 2 years now, bought used of "the Bay". A great PSU, zero problems and rock solid. I usually shoot some compressed air through it every 3 months or so, but yesterday I did finally take off the cover to clean it. First thing I see is this domed Fuhjyyu 4700uf 10v. Yay. The surrounding caps are all Teapos and look fine. Now, using the search it seems the Fuhjyyu's are a common problem in this PSU. My question is, where do you begin disassembling this PSU to get at the cap? Does the whole thing need to come apart? I see some of you folks have experience with this particular PSU, could you give me a little guidance here? Where do I start? Thanks for any suggestions/help.

At JG forums I always get yelled at for pointing out the lousy caps that fail in FSP power supplies and they always say "FSP builds lousy power supplies, it's not the caps".

FSPs are highly underrated and they're a great deal if you change the caps yourself. I find that the models with Teapos always fail on me. So far I have had better luck with the ones that have OST.

I'm in the process of recapping some old mATX FSP PSUs that have unreliable Teapo caps. So far I have never seen a Fujjyu cap in an FSP unit, but the highest rates FSP I have bought is a 350W and those either have Teapo or OST.

The only trouble I have with the mATX model is that one of the primary caps is impossible to take out unless I remove one of the heatsinks. I think I'm just going to leave it in and replace whatever I can.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

The problem with what you say at the JG forums is that you seem to think teapo and OST will fail within 20 minutes of rolling off the factory floor. New teapo has shown itself to be quite reliable in psu's if they are adequately cooled.

But FSP isn't real good at building higher wattage power supplies, they usually have a problem with ripple and so-so voltage regulation. The OP's power supply is actually a 3Y, probably built by AcBel for 3Y but FSP has a controlling interest in 3Y.

ANYWAYS, back to the OP's question. I would start by unscrewing the top pcb and freeing up the wires coming out the back. Try lifting it gently off the top and see what else is holding it down. If it is a connector, note the location and orientation and disconnect it. If it is a soldered in wire, note the colors of the wires and what holes they are connected to and see if you can unsolder them.
