    Mastec HY3005 not working

I have a Mastech HY3005 power supply that died about two years ago and I'm finally getting around to try to fix it.

When I power up the unit, the voltage display will show between 0 and 1.4 volts (as I move the adjustment knobs) while the Amperage display shows 0. I have tried putting a load on it (10 ohm 10 watt resistor) with no effect. I also checked with a multimeter and the outputs do not show any voltage.

The supply hasn't been modified at all. I did open the case to look for obviously damaged parts, traces, or loose wires and didn't find any.

Anyone else have similar problems, or ideas on how to fix it, I would really rather not buy a new supply If I don't have to.

      Re: Mastec HY3005 not working

      I just fixed a friends' HY3005-2.

Shorted 2n3055, no heat sink grease, just thermal pads contaminated at install with dirt.

Shorted 6a10 diode, open trace between diode bridge and relay section.

The previous technician that worked on the unit fitted a 2x larger than rated fuse and
      popped the trace.

If someone has used the supply to charge model car/airplane battery packs the
protection diode on the front panel likes to short... (per other web forums)

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Sony PS4 slim CUH-2216A power supply ADP-160FR not working after short in PFC
        by modtool
        Dear forum members,
I'm working on this power supply for ps4 slim, that behaves in a similar manner as other cases but I can't find a way to solve the problem.
When it came to me, externally the ps4 had standby voltage, clicking the disc eject button made the triple beep (without disc inside) and cliking on the power button made the blue power light turn on and then all turned off within 1 second.
When I opened it up, I found these components shorted:
        Q6 24N60M2
IC41 1612A (not really shorted but had a hole on it and all pins measured open circuit but the 9th...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

        Assuming...

HP RP7 RP7800 from 2012/2013 worst fault - has "character"
        by Rayblaster
Hello friends, I've got a nice toy to play with - it is an HP RP7800 All-in-one POS system. I got it for free and it has one problem - it turns on very rarely, and just for a few seconds. After that it dies and doesn't come on if I don't leave it unplugged for at least 2 hours. I've repaired motherboards before, this is not my first one, but problem with these types of faults is that everything you check on the board will usually be fine. This is the case for me here.

I dissassembled it completely, and got my hands on the motherboard. Model No. is PIQ67H/Higgins 11047-I 48.3GD02.011....

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
        by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....
