Backup UPS capacity and PSU capacity?

    I have a seasonic 550HT.
I wanted to use a backup UPS that would work with it.
I had a APC Back UPS ES 500, but that seemed to have too low a wattage capacity for my old Antec 430, so I thought it would not work with the 550HT. It works with the 430 but if I have the monitor plugged into the battery backup side it sometimes overloads.

So I got an APC RS1500VA LCD.

The LCD shows how much wattage it is actually using.
The Antec 430 was getting to over 200 watts but the 550HT rarely goes over 150 watts and idles at 105 with the system on.

The 430 was used with a Pentium D 820 and the 550HT is used with an i7 920.
So did I really need the RS1500VA or could I have used the ES500 with the 550HT?

Can I get an explaination of the voltage of the UPS with the kind of PSU it can handle?

Re: Backup UPS capacity and PSU capacity?

The 550 is a higher efficiency unit than the old 430. That's why the difference in power consumption. They're both producing the same voltage and current for the system, but the 550 does it better.

The voltage of UPS is as rated. It can handle any PSU and system unless otherwise specified by APC.

The reason the monitor will kill or overload the UPS is because when initially turned on the monitor "degausses" its screen. A degaussing coil is essentially a large loop of wire wrapped around the edges of the screen. It serves to demagnetize the grid in the CRT so colors are accurate. Pass a magnet near a CRT and you'll see color distortion. A CRT can become magnetized simply from the earth's magnetic field and it will distort the colors. All color CRT's have this coil.

So, when you turn on the set, the AC current to the coil passes through a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor and a relay. As the temperature of the thermistor rises, so does its resistance. The current to the coil is slowly reduced and eventually drops to near zero. At this time the relay disconnects the coil completely until you again cycle the power or wake the monitor from sleep.

Your RS1500VA LCD UPS will run your system for longer in the event of an outage than the old ES500 would have.
      Ludicrous gibs!

APC BR1000G battery backup has a weird issue sometimes a bad battery icon and making a weird sound for about 30 seconds
        by sam_sam_sam
This started a few days ago and does this about every 8 hours

After it does this it goes back to normal no bad battery icon and no weird sounds and it goes to battery backup mode so I am not sure what is going on with this battery backup

The battery backup is about 3 or 4 years old

Dose anyone have any idea on how to troubleshoot this issue I have never had a battery backup do this kind-a thing before so I am not sure exactly how to troubleshoot it and where to start

Clevo PD50PNN won't boot after BIOS Backup
        by Chris_stand
        Hello,

i hope to find help her in the forum. It is a littlebit tricky. I searched many Days about disabling IntelME that was may major task. So i have a Clevo PD50PNN motherboard.

At first i tried to Backup the BIOS with tools direcly from Windows(normaly i am a Linux user). But no full success because not every part of the bios was readable. So i bought a modified CH341a for a Backup.

Backup worked but since the backup the Laptop is not booting anymore. I flashed the newest Version oft the BIOS with success, verfiy everything ok.
        But the...

How can I test coil whether it is really broken or not?
        by chth96
I have old game console which have connected to 220v outlet by previous owner and It is not able to turn on.

I checked continuity of fuse in PSU unit with a multimeter which is shown in the below picture with a orange circle around it, and It seems that fuse became open circuit.

I also found that as well as bulging capacitor, there is unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface

I want to replace this round black fuse and unidentified coil if it got broken.

        BIOS Backup / extract 16MB .bin - Lenovo ThinkBook 13s G3 ACN - 20YA0005GE
        by DiddiAb
Recently I used the official Lenovo bios updater software on my ThinkBook 13s G3 ACN (20YA0005GE). The updating process failed and I got a black screen after powering the device. Of course I did not make an own backup before using the Lenovo bios updater.

I bought a CH341A programmer and was able to make a connection to the chip while it is still soldered on board. But I did not realise that the chip was a 16MB size and selected the wrong size (8Mbit / 1 MByte) before reading the content of my chip. So the dump I did before erasing the chip is only 1MByte big. I fear that I lost...
