APC BX700U UPS not working and beeping when plugged in - Repair of SMD components

Had this UPS in, we normally don't do these but it was from a former coworker and friend of our boss. It's a cheapo little APC UPS.

The UPS would beep continuously when plugged in and would not deliver any power. New battery was fitted and it did not solve the problem. Actually, the UPS ran fine on the battery alone, but cut the power and kept beeping when it was plugged in.

Upon investigation, the large relay that was meant to couple 230V AC mains into the rest of the unit was not switching. Therefore, the battery was not charging, either. I had checked for shorts so i strapped the relay for a test - the UPS started charging the battery.

Checked the relay coil voltage and it was 7 volts, on a 12 volt relay. So it was supposed to be turning on but there was not enough voltage on the coil to switch it. The issue was caused by one of the diodes in the double diode D11 and transistor Q23 being (partially) open. Replacement of both components solved the problem. This is shown in more detail in the attached photos.

      Great repair

      My BX700u sound like yours.
My 6 months old Yuasa battery was tested at 5V.

I'll try your fix and hope It'll also fix mine.

Sparkle 1200W PSU MAGNA Model: SPM1200AXJ8 - Broken. Need help identifying components. Any schematics available?
            by Sam Scarbo
My Sparkle (SPI) PC power supply has broken. Originally, there was totally no power output. The 5V-standby was not there. I have replaced a few bulged capacitors but not helping.

I was trying to do more troubleshooting but burned more components. Some got burned so badly that the markings were gone. And also, the markings of a few transistors were gone because the component surface was worn out somehow.
If you happened to have disassembled the same PSU model, please help to provide the markings of some of these components.

See the attached two pictures of the small...

            Repair Success! Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP
            by valvashon
Yesterday I successfully repaired a Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP that had inadvertently been used as a surge suppressor at our transmitter site. It has already been replaced with an updated one but it's coming home with me now instead of being e-cycled. To be specific, this is the MA model that has the blue backlit display and has been discontinued, although this design may have been used in many UPS units including the smaller Middle Atlantic ones in this series.

Here's what happened: We experienced a brownout/surge at the site, which damaged the UPS and took our broadcasting...

Please help to identify the components on Surface Laptop GO3, model 2013, i5-1230U
            by User2025
            Hi,

I am working on a Surface Laptop GO 3, which is the new release 2024 with a i5-1230U processor. Originally, it had a 256GB SSD, then the owner attempted to upgrade it to 1TB SSD by himself. "Surprisingly", it did not boot afterwards, then changed back to the original SSD, did not boot either.

It turned out to be that just a couple of components had been knocked off when the owner was trying to get off the SSD cover with his beloved screw driver.

I do not have another board of same model. Although I have a Laptop Go 2, the layout of that bit...

            9V relay temperature 40C
            by jm1234
Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but...

Biomass Boiler not driving cleaner motor relay. ENERTRES BIOMASA BI-650
            by edugimeno
            Hi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
            So provided all...
