IEC socket w/ caps replacement

Hi,

I need a bit of help. I'd like to replace a power socket with built-in filtering caps. I've been told that I could go without it because there are filters in the PSU itself but not sure I want to go there. What do you guys think?

Anyway, the original was the same spec as the attached pic. Locally I can get this YB06T1 (see attachment). Would this be a good match?

why replace it, the caps in it are metal film and dont really age.

Because the caps in mine blew up. It's not the exact model pictured but an equivalent.

you mean one of the ones with RIFA caps in it?

I don't know what caps they are, they're sealed inside the casing.

Just curious, so how did you determine that the cap blew up since is is sealed unit? It shows shorted circuit between L and N, L and GND, N and Gnd?
The one you have on the link does not have common mode choke, no X cap either, so it will not have the same filtering capability.

BTW: The YBT1 spec sheet does not show the value of the inductor, caps.

Lots of stinky grey smoke. It went off immediately after I plugged in the power cable. Main fuse is okay. The socket blew on the underside causing the DIN serial connector and the plastic around it to go black. By looking at the text on the socket I see it's actually different than the one in the first post.

Could I go without the filtering caps in the socket?

it's not just the caps, it's the 500uH choke.

btw, what is the equipment?

I'd really like to get this fixed. Don't know much about those filters. How important is it to have matching values?
