Re: help with new psu
Recap it first before you use it
I do this myself most of the time if the switching power supply does not have well known brand type caps in it I recap it -

Re: help with new psu
You don't need to replace the primary capacitor(s), the primary caps are the 200v/400v rated caps.
For the secondary capacitors, some brand like Chemi-Con, Rubycon, Panasonic, or Nichicon should work as long as you get the right caps for the job.
One thing that would be nice to know is what model of capacitors these are, as Capxon makes many different capacitors with different specs (just like the other brands i mentioned). On the backs of the capacitors, you should be able to see two letters next to the temperature rating, the two letters should be the model of the capacitor.I'm not a expert, I'm just doing my best.Comment

Re: help with new psu
I think you should replace all of them except the main filtering caps
Most of time I use KY , KZE, LXY if I can find the right size then FR , FC or its equivalent ESR Value
I have had very good results using these series before I only had a couple of switching power supply complaint about the ones that I have used in them

Re: help with new psu
First check if the power supply works and also if it has active warranty. If it doesn't work and still has warranty, you might be able to exchange it instead. And if does work, at least you will know, so that if you do something wrong with the cap job, it might give you a better idea of where things went wrong.Last edited by momaka; 04-24-2018, 12:00 AM.Comment

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.
Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today.... -

by mrsithHi fellow lifesavers.
I have a Samsung washer-dryer WD80N645OOW which died mid-cycle. No response to anything, completely dead.
Checked the socket, the plug fuse, all good. Took it out to examine the boards.
There is a relay clicking on the mainboard. Upon applying power, I can see a diode flashing on inverter board, after a while a diode on main board lits up for a split second, then I can hear a relay clicking. This repeats a few times, then everything dies completely.
I've been trying to examine the main board, but it's a bit difficult becuse...4 Photos -
by joesmoe91Hello,
My Dell Precision 5530 turned off suddenly when I was running Matlab and wouldn't turn on, show any lights, fans, and/or any signs of activity at all. I opened the case, removed the battery and looked at the board with a thermal camera while the AC adapter was connected. I saw that PU1252 was >120C so figured the chip had died on me Got the part number off the attached schematic (see Mouser link below) and replaced the chip. After replacing the chip the board (connected to AC adapter) was able to briefly power on, spin the fans a little bit, and turn on the front led lights.... -
by m710q_flashI had been using this hard drive for a while, and it worked fine only going back and forth between 3 computers.
Plugged it into an older computer that happened to have a really loose USB port. Light flashed once and died, never to be powered up again. Not sure if it's relevant that the USB port was loose.
Anyway, now it doesn't power up at all, it's been sitting on my desk for years and figured what the heck, nothing to lose as I'm not going to pay someone to fix it, maybe I can learn something from it.
Removed the case, figured I would look for anything... - Loading...
