Power supply with ridiculously high output 5V and 3.3V rails?

    A few days ago, I have seen a Shaw 860 (P4-S860) power supply with 47A +3.3V and 50A +5V rails .
I would seriously doubt that any computer would use anywhere near those amounts of power on those rails (+3.3V rail - 4 wires on ATX 20+4 connector and a few for SATA; +5V rail - 5 wires on ATX 20+4 connector, and a couple more for disk drives).

At such high wattages, the power should be concentrated in the +12V rail (for PCI Express devices).
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

maybe , it is an old version ATX PSU ?
    A 500W PSU at the time before P4 could have 50A @ +5V

Some old Xeon server boards from the P3 days needed this kind of power on those rails. Nothing recent I can think of, though.

The Shaw is probably intended for something elderly like that... the 24 pin connector goes back to the original EPS spec, and many of those PSUs also had multiple 12V rails as well.

There might be a 6 pin Xeon AUX connector that looks like a PCI-E, only is not electrically compatible. My SunMoon load tester has one of those on the front - IIRC it has two 12V pins, two 3.3V pins, and two ground.

The set is not turning on, when buttons on the front are pressed the button press sound is coming from the speakers, but the set is not trying to turn on, consuming only couple of watts.

I am troubleshooting a Vestel 17PW26-5 from the set. Not sure how it is supposed to turn on main supply, but with the main board disconnected not getting the main supply to turn on either.

Standby supply is working, PFC is working (390V), but the main supply is dead. Checked the mosfets and driving transistors and found they are not shorted and showing a diode junction. The suspicious...

Dick Smith Q-1760 linear power supply filter capacitor question
        by Agent24
I have acquired a used Dick Smith Q-1760 power supply - although the OEM is Manson Industrial
It has at least one problem.

The voltage control potentiometer VR2, 50K is faulty - going high resistance / open circuit in the CCW end and leading to the output voltage jumping around.
I have already ordered a replacement potentiometer, so that's not an issue.

Now, I want to replace all three electrolytics on the PCB as they are CapXon and I don't trust them so much, I will replace them with something better while I've got the thing apart anyway.
        All are CapXon...

        Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
        by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Onkyo HT-R390 no sound output, video output ok
        by FrancescoV
        Good morning everyone,
I'm trying to repair an onkyo ht-r390 that has no sound output, despite the volume being at maximum, the rest seems to work; the video output signal (coming from an hdmi input) is present, but the audio is absent. Similar situation if I send an audio signal from any input I have no output.

The firmware reported is the following:
        M:1.00/11107BLP
        D:?.??/????????
        O:1.00/11107AL

The DSP firmware given the question marks seems corrupt.

On the BCHDM-0678 - 25140678 - QPWBCHDM0678A0 board the chip that usually seems...
