    DELL L230N-00 (aka LITEON PS-5231-2DFS-LF) PSU - no PWR_OK

    Hi All,

I have said 230W PSU failed in my girlfriend's comp recently.

    On applying 240VAC:

+5VSB (Purple) measures 5V as expected.
PS_ON measures around +3.8V (is this normal ?)

    Upon shorting PS_ON to GND:

+5V, +12V, PWR_OK all rise momentarily (up to about 150mV on DMM) then fall back to ~5mV

All caps appear OK on the board - can anyone give any clues where to look - or better yet have a schematic of this PSU ?

Curiously, a replacement noname brand PSU I fitted to the Dell has just failed as well after a few months of working - if it was line surge you would expect the primary side to be at fault - perhaps a flaky motherboard ?

    Thanks,

    Adrian

Try the same thing only attach a hard drive to one of the drive connectors.
(No need for a data cable.)
Some PSU's need a load to stay on.

Thanks for the tip .. but the PSU doesn't work when connected to the MB - you get the dreaded Dell flashing orange light on the Power Button ..

Not conclusive based on the symptoms, but it appears to be tripping either the overload or overvoltage protection immediately on startup. Here are some places to look:

        1) One of the secondary rectifiers could have failed short. The first candidate is the one on +12v, and probably just one leg of the pair has failed, allowing the startup twitch that you noticed.

        2) Some other short on one of the rails. Replace all secondary caps regardless of appearance if it is a crap brand.

        3) Check the 7905 regulator (if there's one) on -5v.

        4) Check the bleeder resistors for shorts.

        5) Check the controller IC and supply bypass caps near it.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Dell Inspiron 5590 Board 18778-1 no charging, charging not possible
          by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

Dell Latitude 5420 does not start (no post) need help to find the reason why
          by F R 2568
          Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

          The power/battery...

Dell XPS One 2720 AIO Liteon PS-3261-9DA not starting up immediately
          by cheeky2
I suspect the issue is with the power supply Liteon PS-3261-9DA as apparently they are notorious for issues with them. Has anyone else had similar issues where the PC tries to boot up a few times before finally booting up. Now I have opened up the PSU which shows no signs of any capacitors failing. I did remove one capacitor that looked to have an issue however with my peak meter it showed it was within the limits with good very low esr values which was somewhat disappointing!
I am going to put a Meter leads across the outputs to see how stable they are when it occurs to see what they are...

          Looking for Dell Latitude 5520 / 5530 / 5540 RJ45 network connector replacement
          by diamon
I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.
