    Re: Antec SmartPower P.O.S

It should be quite obvious from all these posts that Antec sucks.

Walk away, never look back, and be better off as a result. I've been doing modest Sparkle supplies at $29 USD from Newegg. They are easy to recap and offer lots of room and a nice 120mm fan. They are not high end supplies, but work well for the needs of the typical business user.

Those wanting premium cap supplies can look at Seasonic. They seem to offer high end designs with good caps, and at a very high price.

Antec will often honor an RMA if you tell them specifically the PSU has Fuhkyoo caps installed, and several are bulging/leaking. They gave me an RMA for one, which I blew off when I found out the replacement was coming with just as many bad caps.

    Bye, bye, Antec.

        This is yet another reason i question the power supply;

I thought that a 400 watt power suppy would be more than adequate for a micro ATX mb. Nothing should be in the red.

          Might just be usless software

Check with a Multimeter if you want any reliable readings

I just ordered one of these; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16899705003

If this won't work, i intend to buy a power supply entension and 'tee' into it. But then i'll have to trust the results of a multimeter built by 'the lowest bidder'.

Ordered one of these at the same time; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817372001

I'm getting tired of working on this thing.

You can recap the bad cap PSUs and have a decent PSU. I've recapped 2 antecs so far and they work great now. I have a 3rd waiting for a recap. All of them are over 4 years old (two are at least 5 if not older).
              Sorry for zombie thread.

the Quattro is NOT fine. A friend has just had his die bad caps style. they may be lasting longer then previously, but they still aren't good enough.

Wow, that's some news (welcome to badcaps btw!)
Do you have some pictures to confirm this? What brand of caps did they use this time? Even more Fuhjyyu or did they go further down the list to GSC / Evercon / SACON / Capsun or whatever they decided to name that company this week?

The Quattros are Enhance built. They'll all be Teapo on the secondary. I don't often hear complaints about these going out... one unit's failure doesn't mean we're back in the Fuhjyyu dark ages on these.

I'm still more concerned about the OST caps in the older Earthwatts and True Trio models than I am with the Teapo stuff in the Quattros.

Antec Earthwatts EA-380 smd element type/value
                    by sirpsychol
While recaping Antec Earthwatts EA-380 I've broke one side of unknown smd element, it have no print, it's flatter and darker than smd capacitors on this board, shaped more like resistor but it's not resistor ofc. Unfortunetly the printed description was under it and element was glued to the board so I cant read/tell the letter before element number too. Have anyone any idea what it is? Maybe is there any diagram of this PSU?

                    Picking caps for Antec SU-380
                    by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
                    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

Antec Smart Power SL300S capacitor replacement.
                    by CWEastwood
                    Hello,

I'm currentlly in the process of trying my first power supply repair (really my first soldering project) and have some questions with regard to which capacitors to replace the bad ones.

The power supply is an Antec Smart Power SL300S ATX12V 300 watt.

I have successfully desoldered every capacitor from the board without destroying anything (I think) and I am currently in the process of choosing which caps to order. This is where I'd like a little community wisdom.

Now the capacitors inside are mostly Fuhjyyus (a forum favorite) with 1...

                    Antec VP-600P and NE550M dead
                    by s_henya
                    Hi all,

Got in these 2 nice PSUs, both died after power surge.
Both seems to be suffering from the same fault.
                    Blown main fuse
                    Shorted N mosfet 550v
                    VP-600P: 5R280CE short between GDS
                    NE550M: MDF18N50 short between GDS

In terns of board layout these seems pretty identical.

From past knowledge, once gate get shorted, most likely the for the driver to go bad as well.
I never tried to salvage blown fuse PSU with shorted Mosfet due to that.

Is it worth to try and replace the mosfets? is there a chance that the...

                    Antec BP500U APFC Coil
                    by GnatGoSplat
Antec BP500U PSU fried in my wife's gaming PC. I smelled something unpleasant last night, so I had a hunch something might be amiss. Woke up this morning to a popped breaker and immediately assumed the APFC cap must have blown. I last fixed it sometime in 2011, there's a thread about it here someplace. APFC and secondary caps that time. Replaced them with Panasonic caps. 10+yrs is probably a good run. It's been running 24/7 the last 3yrs, eth mining with a 1070ti and AFK fishing in Black Desert Online, lol.

Anyway, cracked it open this morning, expecting it to just be the APFC cap...
