Hello,
I'm currentlly in the process of trying my first power supply repair (really my first soldering project) and have some questions with regard to which capacitors to replace the bad ones.
The power supply is an Antec Smart Power SL300S ATX12V 300 watt.
I have successfully desoldered every capacitor from the board without destroying anything (I think) and I am currently in the process of choosing which caps to order. This is where I'd like a little community wisdom.
Now the capacitors inside are mostly Fuhjyyus (a forum favorite) with 1 Capxon. They are, aside from the large primary side caps, a mix of general purpose (TN series) and low ESR (TM series).
Most of them I can replace with other brands near 1 for 1 but a few are a bit odd ball. For example the nearest I found to the Fuhjyyu TN 1650uf 16V are the Panasonic FS-A Low ESR 1800uf 16V and the Rubycon ZLJ of 1800uf 16V.
Similarly there is one Low ESR 4700uf 10V cap with a 10mm diameter that no one else uses. I'm gonna grab the 12.5mm and test fit but would like suggestions on other possible replacements. Now I've read other posts which suggest going with the lower 6.3 voltage cap and I've seen others suggest the lower capacitance 3300uf cap. What would you all suggest is the best rating to adhere to.
And 1 final question is if I should just replace every TN general purpose cap with a low ESR variant. So far I've been trying to keep everything relatively the same, trusting in Antecs engineering, but if there's no ill effects in going all low esr (and if there is a benefit) then should I just go that route
What are your thoughts?
