    Antec troubles - need advice

I've got 3 antec power supplies that are completely useless to me right now, and I'm trying to decide if I should RMA them.

First is a Neo HE 500W. It apparently isn't compatible with Intel's 965 chipset, and I've got to send it back in to get one with an updated firmware that is compatible.

The other two are SP-500 models.

One is making a high pitched squeeling noise, even when the PC is off. It's causing my speakers to make all sorts of pops and squeeks when I play sound on the PC.

The second will work all the way up until xp or vista (both do the same thing) is almost all the way booted, then the PC shuts down.

If you guys think recapping the SP-500 units would be a better use of my time, then I might go that way. It's frustrating that I'm going to have to pay to RMA these things.

In the meantime I'm running on an SP-350, but it can't really handle the load of 6 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, and a 7900gt card. It wouldn't even boot until I disconnected one of the hard drives.

    How old are your PSu`s?
If they are older then one year, i think recapping would be cheaper (if you already have soldering equipment and never mind the time) and a fix that would last a long time.

But if there are other quirks not cap related, then i would go the RMA route.
But even then, i would recap at least the SP models.

Look through the vents at the back of the PSU, and the cooling fan vent. If you can actually see burst capacitors in there (it might help to use a flashlight to illuminate it), and it's still under warranty, returning or RMAing would be the best option. If it's more than a year old, and/or is out of warranty, it's probably best just to recap yourself.
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

RMA them no matter what. Make Antec step up and own those pieces of shit. Sooner or later they will smarten up and stop using those Fuhjyyu (pronounced: fuhkyoo) crap-caps.

They honor RMA on mine, even thought out of warranty. Tell 'em the caps are bulged and leaking.

I'd forget the warranty and recap the Smartpowers... odds are pretty good one or more caps are gone. The SP2's were even more susceptible to cooked Fuhjyyus than most of Antec's other CWT built models.

I had to RMA a smart power 500W recently, not only did it whistle like yours, but both the 5V and 5VSB rails are shot too. Taking a month for Antec to return something to replace it as all of Australia is out of replacement units.

My own true power-550 has been modded several times to fix things like the fan control mosfet blowing after a cable short.
