    MKP Self Healing Problem

    Hello,
I am interested with the Self healing property of Metallized Polypropylene X2 capacitors.

Actuallay we'd a recent problem in some of our electronic boards which are using capacitive supplies and X2 capacitors as a current limiter. However, we'd faced with Zener diode problems in those boards which we use 2.2uF and 1.5uF X2 capacitors. Regarding to the current limiting mission of X2 capacitors, our main suspect in this failure is X2's because of its Self healing property. While Self healing is happening, X2 is short circuited for a small period and only the 33 ohm resistor is active during SH so large amount of energy passes through the X2 and burn one of the /both of the Zener diodes.

I have attached our supply scheme as an appendix.

I do appreciated for your precious comments.

    Best regards,

    Re: MKP Self Healing Problem

I suppose you do realize that this a a hot chassis design, which is utterly unsafe for most household and office use. It might even be illegal in most of the EU.

What is the voltage rating of C6? It needs to be at least twice the peak main voltage, i.e. 2*1.4*220. You need to use 630v at the minimum. Also, I can't understand the purpose of C4, unless it is some kind of EMI/RFI compliance component, which seems to be a contradiction, given that this circuit is probably prohibited in most parts of the world that monitor compliance.

Hm... if you put it in an isolated case with no metal or other conducting material it should be fine i think. In circuits like trailing edge cut off dimmers, similar desings for uControer supply are used.

What Zener Diodes on a Linear Power Supply
        by caspian
        Dear members,

I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
        no schematics are available...

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
        by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
        1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
        2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
        3. Problem: TV shuts down

        Thinkpad X1 Carbon "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021" VCC3M problem
        by Zeonalbasta
        i have a problem with thinkpad X1 carbon gen 2 "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021"
The laptop was turned off because the MOSFET was not transmitting voltage. After checking it turned out that the gate pin on the MOSFET was the problem, because it was producing an inappropriate voltage. and it was discovered that the problem was with the Think engine, so I decided to reprint each pin, and finally the mosfet could work properly. However, there is another problem, even though the voltage has been supplied to the laptop, it still won't turn on, there isn't even an LED indicator. After double...

Hi. I have a problem that has been going on for some time (2-3 years). It's hard to explain what it really is. On M-Audio AV40 active studio speaker's two zener diodes get really hot.
        by Dvsr
Hi. I need help from wiser guys. I am amateur in electronics and can't figure this out by myself.
I bought faulty speakers, M-Audio AV40's. Other speaker has all the electronics in it and the other speaker is just passive one powered by the other speaker's amp. Original problem with the speakers was loud buzzing. I figured out that there is something wrong with the capacitors. I went ahead and replaced every electrolytic capacitor on the PCB. The caps are good quality and have the same values as the original ones.
After replacing the caps I started testing out the speaker. It seemed...
