If you're using that delta fan to replace the stock fan, I wouldn't worry about modding the controller. That fan will idle much faster than the stock fan anyway.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Thanks for the feedback, it makes me feel better about leaving it as is, the Delta fan moves quite a bit of air at power up.

Re: Antec TPQ-850 Double sided PCB

I thought I should update this thread since this supply did not work very long before failing again.

After I originally got this supply working I put it in one of my kids computers that should not have been much of a load for this supply. It worked without a problem for about four months then one day it would not turn on the PC. No bang or smoke just a quiet death. At that time, I was sick of this supply after all the time and money I spent on it for it to die so quickly. I tossed it aside where it sat until recently.

I finally decided to see how bad the damage actually was and I was surprised to find only one FET had gone bad. The first attached picture shows the original factory FET and the second picture is what I used as a replacement that only lasted a few months. In case anyone is wondering, the replacement FET was bought new from DigiKey.

I am not sure what exactly killed the FET but I figured it was either one of a combination of heat, voltage or current. Even though the FET is a full pack the factory had it on a sill pad so in my initial repair I just followed suit. This time, in case heat was an issue and since the sill pad was there and could be used I went with an exposed tab replacement in hopes of better heat dissipation. I also bought two different FETs to try as replacements. The one I am trying first is a 8A 900V FET (FQP9N90C) in case the voltage level was the problem. My back up is a 9.5A 800V FET (GP1M010A080H), but I am hoping I will not have to use it. If I do have to use it, I will also mod the fan speed while I am in there to increase the airflow.

This supply will now be used in what will be my new workbench PC, which is a Core2 Duo machine with a GTS 250 video card. This should be a cakewalk for this supply so it will hopefully work for longer than four months this time.

          Double Sided Tape
          by Storyteller12
Just curious what double sided tape everyone uses on the tv screen/ panel when replacing backlights on models like the Samsung ks8000 and mu9000.

I replaced backlights on a curved model ks8500 and it's started to come apart with the tape I used. Have to redo it now but not sure what's the best tape so I don't have this problem again

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

          TCL 49S405 double image
          by howardc64
LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages

The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.
