    Bestec ATX-1956D from HP

Should I worry about this Bestec supply? I've heard a lot of bad things about them around here. This one seems solid and well built as far as weight is concerned, looks like it has cheap caps but I didn't see any bulging ones during a quick inspection. This is a smaller power supply (about 4" deep) from an HP Pavilion 7965. Should I just replace it before it kills something in the computer?

Dont know about the HP one, but I see 2-3 emachines a week with dead motherboards and a bestec power supply. I have found that if I stick a new board in and do not replace the PS that the new board will fail within a week.

I replaced it with another (probably cheap) power supply I had laying around. Didn't want to chance it, even though I got the system for free. It's a 1.7Ghz P4 with 512MB ram on what appears to be an OEM Asus motherboard. Also has a 32MB TNT2 M64 AGP video card. Perfect for what I need at work. Not too powerful, but better than the Celeron 1200 that I have now. Too bad the 80GB Seagate HDD is full of bad sectors

Can't be an AU31, it's a P4 system... I have an AU31 in one of my computers and that's a socket A. Wish I would have written down the number when I had the cover off. It's a Micro ATX board.

BTW I noticed in one of your pics on the power supply thread, you have the same ESR meter I do. One of my favorite tools
