Mains filter - it was easy to find out why...

...it was not doing its job of filtering out mains noise.
A bad Miniprint (by AEE or Rifa) X-class unit was found inside an Aegis CZ5000 mains filter.
This cap, along with the two Y-class units were replaced and the problem was fixed - Miniprint and other clear epoxy encapsulated units are often problematic.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
    by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

ENCONTRAR DATOS DMI EN EL CHIP BIOS IDEAPAD5 15ITL05 / FIND DMI DATA ON IDEAPAD5 15ITL05 BIOS CHIP
    by danielgerman681
Hi, Im trying to find the area on the chip that contains all of my laptops information, but I havent found it. The laptop won't turn on anymore. I was updating the BIOS, and it was supposed to reboot itself, but it wouldnt turn back on. I ve tried every possible solution, every alternative on Lenovo forums, everywhere; I ve taken it to technicians, and no one has been able to fix it. I've already read the chip that contains the BIOS (Winbond 25Q128JSVQ) and searched for my laptops data, but they're nowhere to be found. I only find scribbles and lines of text indicating errors. Has anyone had a...

Bad mains power causing TV malfunctions?
    by chopduel
    Hi,
I've been living in the same apartment for about 5 years now, and moved into it with my old Samsung plasma TV (PS51F5500).
Ever since we've moved in, we would sometimes see strange power-cycling behavior. For example:
    • TV would randomly turn off then back on.
    • TV would turn off and the LED light would blink for a while (over a minute sometimes) until eventually it went back to a regular off state and could be turned on
    • Sometimes it would require disconnecting the mains cord from the TV, waiting several minutes, then putting it back in and turning the TV back on. This had limited

Milwaukee M12-18FC fast battery charger - blown TOP268EG?
    by spleenharvester
I bought 5 of these chargers as parts/not working from the same seller. Upon receipt all were dead and had blown or missing 3A fuses. Upon connecting to mains I find there is +330VDC across the filter cap and nothing past that point.

TOP268EG is visibly scorched on all 5 units, with the scorch mark being between drain and source pins. Is this a common fault or have these chargers all been killed simultaneously by a power surge?

Any ideas what else might be damaged? I am in the process of tracing a schematic for these parts
